On my 1994 chevy suburban, I keep blowing the gauge fuse when its blown the alternator doesn't charge - when the fuse isn't blown it does charge- my buddy says its a ground of about 20 somewhere-

sounds like a mouse has got in and chewed the cables,their is no easy fix from what i can think of but check all the wires and connections in case water has got into it,or snow if your in alaska.its fifteen years old now so its possible that some insulation has broken down or a wiring loom has chaffed somewhere underneath

A common problem with older Chevy trucks is the fuel level sending unit. This is located in the fuel tank and is very likely your problem.
