Check your battery cable connections for corrosion first. Also make sure oil isn't getting into starter connector/terminal. Always do all your tests with a known fully charged battery. A bad ignition switch can give same symptoms, there's no accurate way to test without a voltmeter.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch, or possibly an internal wiring issue.

1998 s-10 security light

If the security light is hot or flashing when the key is in the on position, most likely the ignition key tumbler housing has failed.

You can try resetting the pass code by turning the ignition switch to the on position (do not crank or start the engine). Leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes. Turn the key to the off position, wait 5 seconds and turn the key to the on position again and leave it on for 10 more minutes. Cycle the key to the off position again for 5 seconds the back on for a final 10 minutes. Once the final 10 minutes is complete, turn to the off position again, wait 5 seconds and now turn the ignition on and to the start position. The pass code has now been reset and it should start. If the reset does not work you will have to change the ignition key tumbler housing that contains the key code resistor.
Good luck

2002 MALIBU RAN OUT OF GAS AND WONT RESTART AFTER ADDING GAS Problem

When you run a car out of gas, you use up all the fuel in the lines before it conks out. What you have to do after adding gas to it it turn the key on/off about 5 times get some fuel from the tank to your engine.
Turn key to on position, wait 5 seconds, turn key off.... Do this about 5 times then start.
It is also possible that your fuel filter is now clogged. When you run the tank dry it picks up sediment in the tank which has settled at the bottom. This doesn't cause a problem unless the tank runs dry. You have to get under the car to change it. It is to the rear of the tank, dead center.
You will definitely need to prime it after you change it. Also, keep in mind if you only have a small amount of fuel in the tank still you could pick up more of that same sediment and clog the new filter too.

Key wont turn in ignition. Dont want to hear the key is bent. Tried everything to get it to turn, but wont. It happened earlier today and after 20 minutes of giggling the key it finally turned over. ...

The problem can only be one of three things. Steering column, ignition or key. When there is tension on the steering wheel it will prevent the key from turning. If the linkage in your ignition is bad it will prevent it from turning. If your key looks worn or marred (it doesn't always have to be bent) it wont turn.

Can anti-theft be reset.Lite on car won't start

Try to start car. When it fails leave the key in the on position. You will see the Theft System light flashing. Light will flash for 10 minutes, stay on and then go off. Turn key to off position, wait 10 seconds and start your car.

Don't waste your time or money taking this problem to a dealership because Chevy refuses to issue a recall on this problem. I went to the dealership 5 times. I wound up paying for 2 key cylinders, a BCM module, an ECM module. I finally took it in when the theft system light came on while driving. The problem was in the fuse & relay center underneath the hood. It was all corroded so it was replaced. No problems since then.
