Fan belt broke cambelt!
Hi
Yes, very true, I should have thought that it would have been sensible procedure, to renew a contaminated fan belt.
I also believe that the cam belt cover should have been removed, to inspect the cam belt, for oil contamination at that time too.
As an oil saturated cam belt would be more consistent to a failure, than a fan belt snapping and getting behind the cover, causing cam belt failure !
You have to seek an appointment with the Dealer Manager, and voice you dissatisfaction with there service, and that the resulting costs would not have been necessary, had my first 2 options above been carried out.
As usual, this smell of shoddy main Dealer Servicing.
By the way, what have they told you the estimated damage is to the engine ?
Normally it would only be a couple of bent valves, requiring, the cylinder head removal, fit new valves, cam belt, fan belt, etc, and reassemble, change oil & filter, & test coolant strength.
Good Luck !
A FixYa rating would be apreciated please !
John.
