dealer might be able to fix with the computer diagnostic tool. If there is a push button to reset odometer you can take a small wire and try and feed through the hole and raise needle above the pin. removing the instrument cluster cover is a pretty big task, if you cant find a place to insert a wire, only bypass I can suggest is drilling a tiny hole in the instrument cluster cover off to the side or top wherever the hole is least bothersome to you and then use a wire to raise above pin, after put a little clear silicone or a piece of tape over the hole to prevent dust building up inside the cluster
I am no Honda expert, but a similar problem happened to my ex sister in-laws Ford Taurus. The speed odometer would jump around and it had trouble shifting (automatic transmission). After driving it I changed out the speed odometer sensor on the transmission and it's been fine ever since. I changed out the sensor because if the cars computer cannot tell how fast the car is traveling then fail safes in place go into effect and the computer will do it's best to keep the cars rpm's down based on the speed indicator and not let it shift or shift properly either. If it's getting false speeds then it will shut down the motor when the speed gets to high and allow it to run as the speeds fall (jumping speed odometer needle). It effects the transmission shift points also. It will either shift erratically or not shift out of say 2nd gear, so that the cars engine can't get damaged based on what signal the speed sensor is sending the computer.
Pull the rubber trip reset pin out slowly so all you see is the hole & the shaft. Take a long tin-tie (about 5 inch) & fish it inside the speedo to the needle & carefully bring it back counterclockwise when its back at least to "2-3 O'clock" hold it & turn your switch to coil...the needle will go back to zero. keep the tin-tie in your coin box if ever it happens again!
Do the following:1)key in the ON position:remove the 7.5 gauge fuse.Tach needle should read "0:". 2)put it back,go on the engine and unplug the green plug on the igniter -the big one,with 5 or 6 wires on it.The needle on tach reading should be zero.If not you have a short circuit on the black wire between that plug and the plug on the conbination meter.3) If the reading is zero with the plug disconnected,the black wire for the tach is short-circuited inside the igniter. look closly at the needle, there is a pin that the spedo needle sits on when the vechile is not moving. it normally sits on the top of it.
look closely and if it is actually under that pin then, this might sound like a joke, you have to reach execsive speeds to get the needle back to normal position. there are 2 ways to do this, long stretch highway or block up the vechicle and floor it. let me know how it turns out i came across this 5 times in the past year
