SOURCE: 2003 Hyundai Elantra won't start !!!

Could be a problem with the clutch pedal switch. I'd have a look under the dash first to make sure no wires have been knocked of the pedal switch. If there's no sound, not even a clunking sound it may be the solenoid. I'd first want to eliminate the pedal wiring. Remove the small wire on the starter (most likely a spade type terminal) and using a piece of insulaated wire attach it to the starter where you removed the spade. Flick the other end of the wire on the positive of the battery. If the starter operates your looking at the pedal switch/ relay fault. If not its the starter. MAKE SURE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL BEFORE TRYING THIS. Ignition switched off. That way it will crank but not start.

If your starter goes out what can u do to start ur vehical back up after your starter goes out?

If you have a manual transmission, just turn the key on, but not to the start position. Get a buddy or 2 to push. Shft it into 2nd gear and push the clutch in, puush the car and let the clutch out.
if you have an automatic transmission, you have to replace the starter.

After driving, car will not restart, turns over fine, will start after 5 minutes

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

How can I bypass the starter in my car(manual trans) so it will start? I had the battery checked and it's fine.

  • If the engine cranks ("rrr-rrr-rrr") when you turn the key, then the problem isn't the starter or the battery.Plan to have at least one person sitting in the driver's seat and one or two persons pushing.Turn off all accessories (radio, wipers, lamps).Turn the key to the "on" position.Depress the clutch pedal with your foot.Put the transmission in first or second gear.Release the hand brake and the foot brake.Note that the people pushing need to get the car rolling as fast as they can. This works best down a hill or an incline.Release the clutch pedal while giving the engine a little gas with the gas pedal once the car is moving about as fast as you can run. The engine should start

the 12 amp is for a jump start and the 2 amp is for a trickle charge which doesn't degrade the battery. i believe you have a loose connection either a loose ground cable or the positive cable to the starter check these and tighten if neccessary

    Motor stops running after starting

You might also find that the fuel filter is in need of a cleaning. Sitting that long can lead to a bit of rust dust in the tank, specially if you have given it a push.
