I have a mazda 6 2005. When I put the car in reverse it jumps back really hard. When I drive it, it will only go into first and third gear. My car is an automatic, and it drives great even though its not going into gear. Ive stopped driving it though because I do not want to do any farther damage. My check engine light is on but it is not flashing. My automatic transaxal light is also on. Just started having problems yesterday, and it is sunday- every shop is closed.

ok its either bad motor/trans mounts or a trans issue. check the mounts by power-braking. put it in drive or reverse, foot hard on brake, and give it a little gas. if the car is banging and jumping you need new mounts. or it might be a transmission issue. then the problem would be bad/low fluid or something called a parking pawl. which is how your gear is slected. basically if its not the mounts, its the trans and you should take it to a local trans shop for the best labor cost.
So I'm guessing that when you put it in reverse and it won't move. If you put it in 1st it moves but won't shift to 2nd? And it rattles. And since you have a 4.9 in it the transmission is a 4T60E. I am going to guess that you broke the reverse reaction shell in the transmission.
it sound like there is a problem with the synchronizers and or the gears them selves. either way you will need to have the trans rebuilt before you can not put it into any gear.
You probably need a new, used or rebuilt transaxle installed. I would have a junkyard swap one in if the cars is in good condition, or sell the car for parts if it needs lots of work or has high miles.
