Check my tips and tricks on my profile page, there is a procedure for replacing the timing belt on a 1.9L there. It sounds like to me you are having a problem with the tensioner, I lock the tensioner in the release position to make belt installation easier, Hope this helps, let me know.

Crank pully broke off, serpenteen belts broke.timing seems off

I have seen many crank pulleys come apart thus throwing the belt especially in v6 gm cars and a few ford v8. When they separate, the base stays on the crankshaft so the crank gear stays put and the timing belt/chain stay in place. If your engine still runs, then you do not have a timing belt/ chain that has moved. We really need more information to give you a better answer. What type and year of the car and what engine.

How do you put a timing belt back in time after it broke?

Well, hopefully the valves were not damaged when the belt broke, If no valve damage was done, get the engine/crankshaft to top dead center, line up camshaft sprocket to timing mark and install belt around pulleys, gears, replace water pump if needed, tension belt if no automatic tensioner is used, try to start to see if it runs and hopefully it will. Might be time for an engine if valve damage was done.

We are replacing timing belt on 1995 nissan pathfinder, the belt we bought has round teeth, the belt we took off has square teeth and this belt does not seem to work we have called dealership and they say...

There is definetly two types of belts.
Mabee the engine is a different year.
Both type belts are available.
While your in there replace the tensioner. and if you can afford it, change the waterpump too as preventative.
I have done many of these and most of them I replace the tensioner and waterpump.

Timing belt broke and jump timing how do i get

If you have the harmonic balancer still attached you can align the timing marks with 0 degree to get the main block aligned. With the head removed you can turn the cam shaft till the number 1 valves are both closed and the number 3 exhaust valve is open. Take the time to inspect the valves as well. This vehicle did not come with no contact valves so when the belt broke it is possible the valves made contact with a piston and bent. I highly recommend you get the Haynes Repair manual on this vehicle from the local auto parts store as it has detailed instructions on how to get back to TDC if this happens. It also has Pictures on this. Because this belt goes around 3 timing marks aligning those after you have the pistons at TDC if you align the timing marks on the different sprockets/pullies the timing for teh valves will be correct.

How to set timming belt, cant find mark for crankshaft 3.0L

Timing belt removed, static timing was not set before removing timing belt.

[Set Static Timing:
No.1 piston is brought up to TDC before removing timing belt.

Cam gear has a punchmark on face of gear, and this mark aligns with one single tooth. There is a matching punchmark on the Timing Belt Rear Upper Cover.

Facing the cam gear, the mark is to the upper right. There is an 'egg shape' of the timing belt upper rear cover, in this spot. This punchmark is in that 'egg shape', and is close to a bolt hole. The cam gear mark lines up with the Timing Belt Rear Upper Cover, mark.

The crankshaft gear has a punchmark on the face. It lines up with one single tooth. There is a corresponding punchmark on the lower right side. An alignment mark)

Should be a round punchmark on the face of the crankshaft gear. It lines up with a single tooth. Wipe the gear clean, use a little carb cleaner. (NO flames, or sparks nearby, well ventilated area)

Barring you cannot find the crankshaft mark, find the camshaft alignment marks, make sure they are aligned with the alignment, (Punchmark), on the Timing Upper Rear Cover.

Count the teeth in the timing belt. There should be 133 teeth on the belt.

There is 43 teeth in-between the timing mark of the camshaft, and the timing mark on the crankshaft.

(43 teeth in-between the Right Side Camshaft mark to crankshaft mark, 43 teeth in-between the Left Side Camshaft mark to crankshaft mark)

There should be 40 teeth in-between the two cam gears.

2001 pt cruiser broke timing belt

CHECK AUTO ZONE .COM FOR TIMING PROCEEDURE. I HAVE DONE THIS & IT IS VERY HARD TO GET TIMING MARKS PERFECTLY LINED UP. TOOK ABOUT 3 TRIES. ( CAMS WANT TO MOVE DURING PROCESS.) WHEN TIMING IS JUST RIGHT , IT WILL RUN. MAKE SURE BOTH CAM SROCKET ARROWS ARE POINTING UP. THERE IS A TIMING MARK IN THE VALLEY OF THE EXHAUST CAM SPROCKET TEETH THAT I MISSED.YOU HAVE TO START WITH EXHAUST CAM TIMING MARK JUST BELOW INTAKE CAM SPROCKET TIMING MARK & THEN WHEN BELT IS COMPLETELY ON , MOVE EXHAUST CAM TO TAKE UP SLACK IN BELT. IT WORKS !!!
