This problem has happened a couple of times before, one minute everythings working and then it not. I believe its the electrical grounds. I was going to check them but I don't know where all the grounds are.
G104
Instrument panel harness, below the battery tray, on the RH frame rail, ground for SP208 (CKT 851)
Splice Pack, SP208
Instrument panel harness, RH side of instrument panel, grounded to G104 (CKT 851)

Forward lamp harness, below the battery tray on the frame rail
Fuel Gage
The IPC displays the fuel level as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
?€¢
The IPC displays a low fuel message on the DIC.
?€¢
The check gages indicator turns on.

Mite be a good idea to have the vehicle check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes if the grounds are good !
This vehicle is equipped with a computer system capable of performing multiple engine and body control functions. Vehicle components such as windows, locks, mirrors, etc. are controlled directly by their system control module. Each system control module communicates with other system control modules on a serial data circuit. The vehicle system control modules are all attached to the serial data circuit that provides the data link communications. This data link, or serial data circuit, provides 2-way communication between various engine and body control system control modules.

If the system fails to turn on or activate, the StabiliTrak®
light along with one of the following messages will be
displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC):
TRACTION CONTROL OFF, SERVICE TRACTION
CONTROL, SERVICE STABILITRAK. If you see these
conditions, turn the vehicle off, wait 15 seconds, and then
turn it back on again to reset the system. If any of these
messages still appear on the Driver Information Center
(DIC), your vehicle should be taken in for service.

The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit
?€¢
The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status
The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
The traction control switch is a input to the body control module, with a scan tool hooked up an looking at BCM data ,check for conformation the traction control switch is turning on an off !
SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM indicator in the message center when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM indicator illuminates for 60 seconds when the condition is present. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
TRAC OFF
The IPC illuminates the TRAC OFF indicator when the following occurs:
?€¢
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) inhibits the traction control system due to a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
?€¢
The body control module (BCM) detects that the traction control switch has been pressed (signal circuit is low). The BCM sends a class 2 message to the EBCM in order to disable traction control. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
?€¢
The body control module (BCM) detects that the traction control switch has been pressed (signal circuit is low). The BCM sends a serial data message to the EBCM in order to disable traction control. The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM requesting illumination. The BCM sends a serial data message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
you need to have the ( EBCM ) electronic brake control module checked fro codes !
