1993 F250 5.8L wont idle correctly, runs bad and smokes of fuel
Hello all , I hope someone can help me, I have been trying to get my work truck working for 2 weeks now. It runs great sometimes and doesn't smoke, but then it will start smoking and the check engine light comes on, when I stop and put it in park it will die. It will crank right back up but wont idle unless I put it in gear(automatic trans). I have changed the oxygen sensor, didn't help then did a complete tuneup, wires, caps, rotor, plugs, fuel filter, air filter, ran for a couple of days and started again, then changed the MAP sensor, didn't help. Then took it to the Ford dealership here in McComb, Ms and they put it on the computer (light was on) they said they couldn't tell me anything but they thought it was electrical, ha. And charged me $30 to tell me nothing. I changed the fuel pressure regulator this morning now it seems to run bad all the time..... it idles rough and still smokes, the smoke is raw fuel, the truck doesn't burn oil. I don't know what else to do, does anyone have a picture of the vacuum system for this engine? It runs better if I open up a larger vacuum line(unplug it). But it still smokes........ Oh yea its a 1993 model great worker when it running!
Well it just about quit again, I put it in a shop! Hope it wont cost more than the trucks worth to fix!!!Well it just about quit again, I put it in a shop! Hope it wont cost more than the trucks worth to fix!!!

Bummer deal! Rough idle and black smoke indicates a possible bad fuel injector leaking gas - or failing spark plugs. Bad or dirty injectors are a cause of sticky valves, and when sticky do cause rough idle and sometimes valve tapping - beside black smoke. Check those items first as they are most common failures. Rarely, a engine head sealing gasket may leak coolant into the motor to cause such problems. That would make a white steamy smoke. In that case it would overheat - did it? In this case, serious engine work, or a new engine is needed. I like the products at this web sites to end those issues. Hope this helps. Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on-if you can is the fuel making it to the fuel rail injectors. It sounds like you have a bad fuel pump. check the fuel pressure with a gauge at the fuel rail-there should be something that looks like a tire inflator valve stem that you connect a gauge to. you may also have blockage-a bad fuel filter-Hope this helps Denny
BLACK SMOKE IS A RICH FUEL MIXTURE.MERCEDES HAS THE CIS FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM.YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE REGULATOR.THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP WII HAVE TO FIX THEY HAVE TO USE SPECIAL EQUIPMENT TO WORK ON THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM.
Smoke usually there's a problem.... Bluish gray smoke means you're burning oil (could be a number of things like piston rings, valve seals)... White smoke means could mean you're burning transmission fluid, or there's a crack in the gasket or engine block.... Black smoke could mean you need your air filter changed, bad fuel injectors, bad distributor cap, ignition coil... I would guess it's probably black smoke coming out of your exhaust from the sounds of your symptoms...
Hello,
First confirm it is either gas or eastter. Wayer/condedste collects at the tail oip as a byproduct of the caralyctic converter on cold rngine It normally occurs on firts start of a cokd enginw. the ebgine idles low because it is col, but should reyutn to normsl after warm uo.. If for sure iys gasolinem and the engine runs eiygh, then angihector is bad, good luck. I hope this helped yyou
