Which fuse did you replace ? The one in the under hood fuse box or one of the two in the I/P fuse box . Do the CHMSL - center high mount stop lamps work correctly ? Here is a description how they work .
Stop Lamps
The STOP LP 25 A fuse in the underhood fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the normally open stop lamp switch. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the switch contacts close and battery positive voltage is supplied to both the STOP 15 A fuse and the CHMSL 10 A fuse in the I/P fuse block, and to the turn signal/hazard module. The turn signal/hazard module then supplies voltage to both of the trailer rear turn/stop lamp supply voltage circuits. The voltage from the CHMSL 10 A fuse is to the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) and the trailer jumper harness. The voltage from the STOP 15 A fuse is to the stop lamps, throttle actuator control (TAC) module, and the cruise control.
Does yours have trailer light hook up ? If so check trailer wiring connector for corrosion . Also check the turn signal / hazard module .
Does
Testimonial: "The two fuses in the IP fuse block were good. I changed the one (25) under the hood which was blown.N Upper brake light is staying on just like the other two."
The two fuses in the IP fuse block were good. I changed the one (25) under the hood which was blown. Upper brake light is staying on just like the other two.
oh,also my turn signals are working fine and i do have a trailer hook up,,,checking connection now. Sorry about posting in the testimonial section,,I'm a noob.
You mite also look in the rear lamps junction Block ,Corrosion can get in there as well .Oh an don't listen to that other guy , this problem will not set any codes . Junction Block - Rear Lamps
On the Rear Inner Side of the Right Frame Rail
Have known problems with rear lamp junction block !
Thank you ,,I will check it out and let you know.
If you pull the 25 fuse in the under hood fuse box do there go out or stay light ? There is a short to power on that circuit somewhere .
Checked connections on frame rail,,look clean. When I pull the 25a fuse under hood ,the lights do go out.
When you say short to power,,you mean the wire sheath is compromised and grounding out?
yes , but to a circuit with battery voltage on it ! pull the other fuse's in the IP fuse box , one at a time an see what happens ! The short lies in one of those two circuits It would seam to me !
Or you could have a problem in the instrument fuse box .
Instrument panel fuse box !

Brake light switch needs to be adjusted so it is not actuated when brake pedal is up(not pushed)
Testimonial: "I thought about that but I see no way to adjust."
I thought about that but I see no way to adjust.
Usually either the switch itself or the plate that actuated it is adjustable
I have Cadillac factory service info , there is no adjustment !
you are correct. i am wrong about that year. sorry. does light go off if you pull up on brake pedal?

Before starting to change parts in your car, you should have scanned the computer, to do a proper diagnostics. You still can do it.
I dont have the funds for that,,,but thanx.
Check how everything is working and if it's just a "light" issue and system seems ok, keep using your car with care and save for a better checkup.
The brake lights stay on and drains the battery,,,cant use vehicle without brake lights. oh and a dead battery.
I feel the problem is not with your brake but with some electronic circuit.
If brake works correctly, temporally, until you solve issue, you can use the car with brake light on. Disconect the battery when the car is parked. I realize that it's a real pain in the back but if you can't find out the the problem by reasoning, the only way is to get scanned your computer.

To remove switch, disconnect wiring, loosen locknut and unscrew switch. Replacement is reverse procedure. To adjust, screw in switch until operating button is fully depressed by pedal arm, tighten locknut and reconnect wires. Check for correct operation of lights.

I'm still at a loss here...any help would be much appreciated.
Did you adjust the break switch !
I don't see any way to adjust it.Please advise.
Does yours have adjustable pedals ? There are two different switches 1 with an 1 without adjustable pedals . I bet they gave you the wrong one ! Power into an out of the switch changes with or without adjustable pedals ! Power in with adj. pedal Terminal E , without terminal B . Power out with adj. pedals terminal F , without adj. pedals terminal A . Connector has terminals A-F .
FIX IT! Your last comment put me on the right path. They sold me a switch that was a mirror image of the original but it fit and the terminal was correct but it was just upside down compared to the original.Installed it and still had the same issue with lights staying on. So tonight I decided to pop both swicthes apart and compare the guts and then realized while pushing the button on the new switch that the first two closed contacts open and the third one closes. On the original switch the third contact was stuck closed,,,there it was! I pulled the spring and the button and removed the two leads to the third contact, lightly sanded them and re installed them and bending one lead so it was about 1/16" from other lead.Re installed the button then spring.Pushed the button and the first to opened and third one closed. I reinstalled the original switch and looks like I'm good to go! Jeff I cant think you enough man for staying with me on this and getting me on the right path. I know so much more about this vehicle after countless hours of reading. If your ever in the New Orleans area I'd love to buy you a beer or a cup of coffee,,,your choice.Thank you.
Your welcome an glade to help ! It was driving me buggy ,what heck's causing this ,I was thinking it was getting voltage from somewhere else . I have seen this where someone put a wrong tail light bulb in an the voltage back fed through causing the brake lights staying on !I would take you up on the beer but I don't get down your way ! Never been to New Orleans!
