The car will only go in drive if you push the "Snow" button and Rev up the engine and you have to push the snow button every time you stop and try to take off again.

SOURCE: my stability system shows as dissabled??

Your stability system works by a acuator on top of your shocks changing a valve inside your shocks, the connecter is on top of the shocks they can come loose our corrode from the salt in the snow,Clean or replace faulty one this will take care of your problem.

SOURCE: After 2 foot snow and riding on snow packed roads,

The traction control makes a rumbling noise when its activated, as does ABS braking. In the glove box is a switch to defeat traction control- try turning traction control off and see if the noise stops.

SOURCE: why wont my transmission shift out of 1

Hi Mike,

It sounds like it could be a problem with the "linkage" Linkage is the term used to describe the mechanical connection (rods, elbows, swivels, etc.) that are between the gear shift and the transmission itself.

If bent, loose, jammed, etc. you'll have troubles not unlike those you're describing. If you cant get it to shift in the direction you want go - you'll have to have it towed to the repair shop of choice.

If found to be the problem - it shouldn't be an repair really - so good luck!

I have just purchase a 2011 countryman with 4 wheel drive and was wondering how this car handles driving in snow. I live in Ottawa Canada and we can get some pretty severe weather.

4 wheel drive is dangerous because it allows you to START rather quickly especially vs a rear wheel drive. The dangerous part is you cannot STOP any faster than any other vehicle.
Driving in snow is all about understanding limitations.
I once drove a Ford Pinto with no snow tires from Niagara Falls to New Hampshire with snow on the road from Syracuse. I had to go up a mountain east of Keene. On the way up I passed a couple of 4WD Jeeps off the road. At the top I had to stop and wait for the snow plow, but I made it all the way up without stopping. YMMV

Windshield wipers stopped working with heavy snow cover

The windshield wiper circuit has an circuit breaker in it, under heavy load this breaker trips to protect the wiper motor, when the motor cools, the breaker resets automatically restoring proper wiper action.

ON THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE, WHEN THE ROADS ARE COVERED IN SNOW AND ICY, SHOULD THE TRACTION BUTTON BE PUSHED IN SO THAT THE DASH LIGHTS UP WITH "TRACTION". THIS BUTTON IS ALWAYS OFF, WHEN SHOULD IT...

This button turns the All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) function on and off. When the "TRACTION" light is on, the AWD function is on -- AWD should be on in snow / ice.

On ice engine will not rev up pushing on gas does not allow car to move in either direction

traction control is probably kicking in... try some salt or sand under the tires, or maybe just some snow tires...

Back tires sliding in the snow

Snow tires.

All season tires are jacks of all trades but masters of none. You might find that some all season tires are great in snow but then when you drive over wet snow or any ice it's like you're on your rims.

For your car I recommend Yokohama Iceguard. They aren't cheap but then body work and tow trucks aren't either.

After 2 foot snow and riding on snow packed roads, rumbling noise from under car.

With all due respect, what the H___ are you doing driving in 2 Feet of SNOW? The rumbling noise you hear is most likely caused from Snow being impacted in the CV Joints, Wheel Wells and anywhere else from freezing in place after driving in the "Deep Snow". The solution is to have the care raised on a Hoist and Pressure Washed to remove all Snow and Ice from the the entire Bottom Side of the Vehicle. It then should be allowed to dry thoroughly in that building before being driven. Additionally, if any noises occur upon exiting that facility turn around and have it repaired before it costs you untold thousands of dollars to repair.

Next time you have "DEEP SNOW" wait until the Roads have been cleared, salted or sanded and are back down to pavement before driving on them.

Snow button on my 2008 Highlander

The "snow" button sets the transmission to start off in second gear, and makes the accelerator less sensitive thus reducing the tendency to slip and slide. It also has the effect of reducing the power and responsiveness of the car. Try driving with the snow button "off" in "normal" snowy conditions and see how you go. Use "snow" for exceptionally icy conditions.
