Question about 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse

1 Answer

What would cause the transmission not to shift till the engine hits 5500 RPM?

I have been told that the computers on the engine and transmission are both good. The sensors on the engine are not getting any ground at all.

My granddaughter has a 2003 Alero 6 cylinder, with 70,000 miles which bent all the pushrods when she accelerated to pass a car. Her (certified) mechanic told her it was because the car was driven below 55...

I say find a different mechanic that knows his trade as that one doesn't
As for your statement it maybe possible but not probable as the engine is designed to rev out without engine / valve train problems
High rpm with worn valve train/hydraulic lifters may cause a lifter lock and cause the problem as it allows the lifters to pump up and cause the valve springs to become a block and that will mean that the rockers can no longer move so that will bend the push rods
accelerating to pass a car and it happened would indicate a problem in the transmission actuator as the transmission will down shift initially ( passing gear where the engine rpm increases by 2,000 rpm but then the manifold vacuum takes over and shifts the ratios in the transmission which brings the rpm down as the road speed builds up

I have a 99 vw beetle 2.0 and it will not shift until it is over 4000 rpm if it is in drive and I accelarate to 3000 or 3500 and stay it won't shift up no matter how long I hold it there, then if I go over...

Sorry to tell you, but your model Beetle is famous for transmission problems. Google 99 Beetle transmission and you will see. I think it is a dealer only job too.

Transmission

Try changing oil and filter. Also change speed / shift sensor if the oil and filter change doesn't do anything.

Jeep erradic in shifting

Check the adjustment on the brake switch. If the brake switch is not seated properly it will engage when hitting bumps and tell the tranny to come out of overdrive.

1999 Dodge Stratus error code P1788

This code sometimes comes up when the transmission is not shifting in overdrive.

Here is some research that I did and this is wut I found

This code is set whenever in any forward gear with engine speed above 1000 RPM shortly after a shift and every minute thereafter

After a shift into a forward gear, with engine speed > 1000 RPM, the TCM (Transmission Control Module) momentarily turns on element pressure to the clutch that don’t have pressure. For this to be activated, the switch must be closed in order for the circuitry to be completed. If the pressure switch does not close 2 times the code sets.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

RELATED DTC’S PRESENT
TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
INTERMITTENT WIRING AND CONNECTORS
TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
2/4 PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN
2/4 PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
2/4 PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION
TCM - 2/4 HYDRAULIC PRESSURE

My advice to u is get to someone who is experienced about this kind of technology in order for the problem to be rectified.
