Truck is very sluggish when going up hills. Seems okay on highway (no hills) though. Any suggestions or common problems with these?

My apologies for not mentioning earlier, spark plugs and wires are new (just changed a month ago).... Was thinking maybe a clogged fuel filter?

Could be a few things... possibly a vacuum leak, bad plugs & wires, dirty fuel injectors, clogged fuel filter, or a bad catalytic converter

Testimonial: "Thought it may be a clogged cat also.. but if it was, wouldn't it be sluggish all the time? Just curious...."

No...lower RPM on highway = less exhaust. Its possible it could be a vaccum leak or fuel filter

When was it last serviced? How many miles has it done? Does it freewheel OK, no drag? Have you had any work done recently that may be a clue?

Tell us everything!!

Testimonial: "It's my brother in law's truck - and he happened to mention to me that he had just changed the plugs and wires a month ago. I was able to test drive the truck and man this thing drives rough! (but that's besides the focus point of the loss of power issue). I nearly floored the accelerator when approaching this major hill in his neighborhood and the truck just barely made it to the top. Not much shuddering (in the wheel) but just s-l-o-w"

First thought is he didn't get the leads in the right order. Was it OK before?

I have a 2006 dodge caravan. sometimes when I'm driving down the highway my air will stop blowing. as I get down the highway it will kick back on. what is wrong?

Chances are your Caravan uses thin plastic vacuum tubes under the hood. When you go up a hill under power or engine brake going down a hill, the engine will rock back and forth in the engine bay. This will sometimes bend (close off) the plastic vacuum lines causing the vent settings to change (even though you did not touch the levers) Either avoid the conditions that cause the problem or just expect it when going fast up a steep hill and live with it... or... change the vacuum lines to the traditional stiff rubber line which should stop the kinking. Stiff rubber vacuum lines should solve the problem. Hope this answers your question.

Cruise only works after truck is warmed up for about 20 to 30 minutes in winter.

Never heard of the converter being the issue. The system can be tested with the correct scanner, was that done. Do you have a loss of power of feels sluggish up hills or wnen accerating hard?

Does the trany fluid smell burnt? Might want to have the trany flushed - torque converter too - and replace the filter in the trans. FYI you may know this but it is not recomended that overdrive be enabled when pulling a trailer - especially a heavily loaded one. Does your town have lots of hills - this is an added stain on the trany.

first pull your dipstick for the oil look to see if its murky or milky looking or if the oil level is higher than it should be if you dont see any of this start the car and walk to the tailpipe look to see if you have white smoke coming from it if you see 1 or all of these things then you may have a bad headgasket. if you dont see any of these things you may want to have your radiator pressure tested it sounds as if you have a developing problem with the radiator or the head hope this helps.

I THINK THEY MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE PLUG WIRE BOOTS, TAKE A LOOK AT THEM AND SEE IF THE RUBBER BOOTS ARE TORN OR DAMAGED, CHEAP TUNE-UP SHOPS ARE FAMOUS FOR CAUSING THIS KIND OF DAMAGE, THERE IS A SPECIAL TOOL TO REMOVE THE WIRES WHICH GET STUCK TO THE PLUGS, MANY YOUNG KIDS DO THE WORK BUT DON'T EVEN KNOW THE TOOL EXISTS.
