Hazard flashers will not go off

Do you know what a DVOM - digital volt ohmmeter is ? How to use wiring diagrams to test electrical circuits with DVOM? Do you know how the turn signals work ? What controls them ? More then likely it's a problem with turn/hazard flasher module.

Turn Signal/Hazard Lamps
The IGN E 10 A fuse in the underhood fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the turn signal switch assembly. Ground for the hazard switch is from G302. The FLASHER 15 A fuse in the underhood fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the turn/hazard flasher module. When the turn signal switch is placed in either the left or right position, a voltage signal is completed from the turn signal switch to the turn/hazard flasher module. When the hazard flasher switch is activated, a ground signal is completed from the hazard switch to the turn/hazard flasher module. The turn/hazard flasher module then sends an on-off voltage signal to the appropriate turn signal lamps, or to all turn signal lamps for hazard operation through these fuses:

The hazard switch gets power from the horn fuse which is hot all the time, and from the turn signal fuse which is hot when the key switch is on. The turn signal switch gets power from the hazard switch and both use the same flasher.
So if the turn signals work but the hazard switch does not power the lights, and both fuses have power, I would say the problem is inside the hazard switch.

Hazard and turn signals usually use separate flashers, switch the flashers to see if turn signals work and hazards don't, if so replace the flasher

you need to replace the blinker flasher unit

it is different from the hazard unit

they cost about 4 bucks

the flasher unit is the big round thing in the fuse panel in the dashboard

The turn signals and hazard flasher should be on two different circuits, so I doubt a fuse would be the problem.
The multi-function switch in the column is the only thing I know of that would affect both.
A mechanic would test the circuits at the harness plug.

check the fuse if good then turn on the hazard lights if they work then you probably need a turn signal flasher which is a separate flasher unit then the hazard one.it usually looks like the hazard one so with the hazards on and locate it then you will know what the signal flasher looks like and you will also know not to change the wrong flasher unit.the signal flasher is often located at or near the under dash fuse panel or somewhere in the dash you don`t say what type of car your talking about.

About your 1992 Buick Park Avenue 3.8L SFI OHV 6cyl. the Flasher is located:
Hazard flasher: Front seating area, driver side, under dash, mounted above kick panel

Turn signal: Front seating area, driver side, under dash, driver side of steering column, mounted on support bracket

Your vehicle has 2 flasher relays. One for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights. The turn signal flasher relay is located on the drivers side, under the dash, mounted on the drivers (Left) side of the steering column. The hazard flasher is mounted on top of the steering column. Do not get them mixed up.

It's probably the turn signal flasher. It is usually located under the dash along with the hazard light flasher. If you don't know what it looks like, then go to a parts store and look at a new one. Once you have located one, then remove it. Try the hazard flashers. If they work, then replace that flasher with a new one. If they don't, then reinstall that flasher and look for another one like it. When you find one, replace it with the new flasher and try the turn signals. There are usually two flashers that are used on most cars. One for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights. They are usually located under the dash. If you don't know what they look like, then go to the parts store and ask to see a new one. Once you locate both of them, see if they have the same part number stamped on them. If they do, then switch them and see if the signals work.
REMEMBER : The key must be turned on for the turn signals to work in most cases. The hazard flashers will work with the key off.

you don`t say but do the lights work either on the front/back on both sides.if not then it may be a fuse that needs replacing or need a bulb replacement.if the lights work but don`t flash then it sounds like a signal flasher problem.the flasher is located in the fuse panel under the dash on the drivers side.if the hazard flashers work then turn them on to find the hazard flasher by the fuse panel then you will know what the signal flasher looks like and change the signal flasher.make sure you change the one for the signals and not the hazard one.if the hazards work then i would say the signal switch is good as the hazards work through the same switch.
