2003 pt cruiser auto trans whines and acts as though in neutral code p0841 already replaced trans control solenoid when first starting all gears work fine then nothing

Here is the definition for code 841. It could be a solenoid - switch or other problem. The code 700 means you have a problem with the electrical system in the transmission.

was the neutral safety switch adjusted try moving the shifter slowly threw the gears while turning the key that wilol show you YOU MUST KEEP YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE TRANS MAY NOT BE IN NEUTRAL WHEN THE SWITCH IS

OK... brains are expensive. It sounds like your PT STARTS OK, but keeps your TRANSMISSION locked.

Many transmissions have a 'lock' that is coupled to the car BRAKES. So the transmission may not allow SHIFTING if the BRAKE SWITCH is not sensed as 'brakes applied'.

APPLIED BRAKES = OK TO START/SHIFT. So it's possible a defective switch is your problem?

My thought is the neutral safety switch is failing., or the gear selector linkage is out of adjustment-im not familiar with pt cruiser drivetrains, but the neutral safety switch allows a vehicle to start in only park, or neutral. Switch is located somewhere on the trans housing. Loose gear selector linkage can also be the culprit. My advice is to purchase a haynes, or chiltons repair manual specific to your cruiser's model year and follow the troubleshooting sequence for each. this will save you a lot of cash-

the 2nd & 3rd gear solenoid needs replacing. It is mounted by the trans filter inside the trans pan

you dont need gear oil. you just need trans fluid. the differential is part of trans and uses trans fluid from trans. just put it in though dip stick tube

jack the motor up from underneath a few inches then you can remove

assuming you have checked the trans oil and it is full, it sounds like you need to take it to a good trans shop and have it looked at. it could be something simple or something major and expensive

there is no band to adjust for your problem,the only bands are for stopping movement in the trans to to go to reverse,if your transmission is whining it is a problem with the front pump assembly ,
