Hot does make a difference. You say it won't start, but does it crank and not start, or not even crank? If cranks but will not start, any electrical part may fail as it heats, and when you shut it off the engine gets much hotter since coolant is no longer circulating. Thus, a marginal crank or cam sensor, or coil/ignition module may work while cold of while engine is running, but fail when you first turn car off.

SOURCE: 98 saturn sl1 won't start

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

SOURCE: 98 saturn sl1 won't start

I have a 98 Saturn SL1 from time to time it would not start, it wouldn't even try. I knew the battery was good. It turned out to be the cranshaft position sensor.

SOURCE: i have 1998 saturn sl 2 car starts after 5 or 6

Spray ether into the air intake and see if it still takes 5 or 6 cranks...if it starts immediately, it is fuel related, perhaps fuel presure regulator is bad. If the ether doesn't change anything...it is most likely a cam sensor...good luck!

SOURCE: HELP with my problem to my Question and added details

A good hot battery shoulde do it. Have you had any problems with the security system? That's all that should keep it from starting now. Have you put a socket on the crank bolt to make sure the engine is not seized and turns freely?
Good luck.

Suzuki forenza wont even fire or turn over! Headlights and radio work fine just wont start and is new battery!

This procedure usually works:
·Check the battery cable connections:
Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter. Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine.

·Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.

·Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's bendix gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck bendix gear.
·Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

Ford ranger wont start

Are you saying when you turn the key to start the radio and dome light go off ? That should be normal unless the draw from the starter is too high. The start position only powers the relay-solenoid under the hood.
Do you have full battery power at the starter when the key is in the start position ? Battery cables clean and tight on both ends ?

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Pick up 5.2 L V8 will not start just clicks. We recently replaced the battery (it's 1 month old), spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, oil filter, drained the radiator and put some fresh...

If it makes a single click every time you try to start it than the starter is probable bad. Sometimes if you keep trying to start the vehicle the clicking will be enough for the contacts in the solenoid to finally make good contact and allow the starter to finally start the vehicle. If this is the case than replace the starter ASAP.

Car won't start. It turns over and clicks fast, but nothing. Dad says it may be the starter, but I don't know where the starter is to tap it to see. Can you help?

Right side, down under. You say it turns over? if it turns over, the starter is working. Turning over and cranking are the same thing. It either CRANKS or it DOES NOT CRANK. or it CRANKS but wont RUN. Explain things in these terms so theres no confusion.
