You need a scan tool to determine if it is the speed limiter shutting everything down or if its another failure have you owned the vehicle the entire time our was it purchased used
Purchased used 4 yes ago..never an issue shutting off at high speeds....normal daily commute speeds are around 35mph... it started shutting off on commute....took it and had scan done and no codes showing

SOURCE: will start then dies
On the regals they have a ceramic resistor on the passanger side under the fender. It heats up and over time it tends to brake and the wire inside tends to rust away. The fuel pumps run in 2 different speeds. Had the same problem. Dealer only part yet the car would run and you would think it was the fuel pump. Turn the key it kicks on then start and dies out. Ceramic on the pass side would need replaced. It is white about 2-3 inches long or so held on with 2 bolts i do believe. Ill find a bulliten i found online to help me diagnos the problem. :) hopefully this helps someone out instead of spendin $$$ that ya cant afford with the recession eh?

could it be the A/C pump kicking in. might be boging down the motor or electrical circuit, not letting the injectors get enough power. This could happen if the bearings are going bad in th A/C pump or there is a short in it. Just an idea. sounds like you have done the main components.

You have a problem in the fuel pump relay circuit for sure then. I'm betting the relay, but it could be that dropping resistor.

Replace the idle air control valve. Mine just did it today the 15th of August. I replace the Idle air control valve and problem solve. I have a 2000 Expedition 5.4 liter.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles or once a year to ensure the fuel system is running 100%. Auto Zone will have the fuel filter and can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. If it's the fuel pump failure, you have not gotten the car restarted. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your car running 100% again soon and please rate.

It was purchased used 4 yrs ago.... never had issue with shutting off at high speeds but has died at speeds of 35 mph as well.
Sounds like an intermittent fault in the engine control circuitry but if want to throw parts at it i would start with a fuel pump relay and inertia switch
I'd rather not just throw money into maybe parts but do you think the relay could be the issue? Or is there a different way to track problem.
I did the rest on the relay by placing finger on it and having someone turn switch and it is clicking but could it be working when car is off and then going out when driving. I guess the question is could the relay just be going bad and not completely failed?
The relay could be develoing some resistance internally that would increase as heat builds from power flowing through the resistance as heat build resistance increases so yes they internally switching mechanism can be completely functional while still causing and issue with power flow plus they are cheap so it doesnt hurt to pick one up the best possible way to diagnose that problem is to have a scan tool hooked up and recording while the failure occurs but if thats not an option i would start by hooking up a duel pressure gauge tape kiit to the windshield and drive it til it happen if fuel.presaure is maintain during the failure then I would start checking the power and grounds to the pcm ignition module as well as confirming the injector harness is in good shape by visual inspection for broken insultion on wires rubbed wires frayed etc then check for voltage drop with a dvom. With a good scan tool you can control each individual injector and relay while testing them with an ocsilascope so really a quality repair shop is probably the best route at this point because your talking thousands of dollars in tools to accurately diagnose this issue. Also search Google for tsb's (technical service bulletins)relating to.your issue
