On the same switch that tilts the seat, if you slide the switch forward or backwards the seat will move in that direction.

SOURCE: Electric front seat stuck in forward position.

I had the same problem on my 2003 Toyota Camry. The threaded drive screws are what spin underneath the seat and cause the seat to move back and forth (same way a garage door opens or closes). When the seat gets all the way in the forward position, the threading on the drive screws ends, which causes the bolts connected to the seat to jam and get stuck. It should sound like the motor is trying to turn but it won't, it just clicks. Un-jam the bolts and rotate them one rotation from the all the way forward position to ensure your seat is reinstalled straight.

SOURCE: 2000 Park ave - power seat problem

The electric adjustment motor has a drive-gear that engages a gear on the shaft of the adjustment screw (90 degree engagement). The gear on the adjustment shaft looses a tooth. Adjustment motor whines, drive gear on adjustment motor spins, no action though because of missing tooth. A 12mm 1/4" drive socket on a wiggler (universal) on the end of a 6" extension can engage the not on the end of the exposed large adjustment shaft and, as the shaft is lightly loaded and the electrical switch engaged, one can get the shaft to spin almost one revolution at a time until the seat is high enough. It is hard to reach the nut necessary (inside the dull-grey clevis that the shaft threads into) and I had to take off the seat pad by removing the 4@ 13mm nuts (and 3 @10mm nuts holding the center section with the driver's cushion) to more-or-less easily access the situation. Dealership wanted well over $1000. to fix it. Three out of my 4 up and down adjustment motors are running, but don't adjust. PS, on my 2001 Park Avenue on each seat there is one adjustment motor for the front edge up and down, one adjustment motor for the rear edge up and down, one adjustment motor for the seat fore and aft, and one adjustment motor for the sear back tilt. Lots of complication, not so much on durability. We do not swap out drivers and adjust the seats excessively. Weak design on the one internal gear. Manually adjust it, unplug the electric to the motor, Drive happy again.

2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible power seat stopped moving forward. I had the seat moved all the way back. Switch still allows seat to go up and down and also tilt. Is the switch the problem?

It depends, a test light will make trouble shooting this quick. Unplug the motor that controls forward and back movement. Probe the vehicle side of the connector with your test light while operating the switch. If you have power going to the motor when the switch is activated then it is not a switch issue. It is either the motor or there is an obstruction not allowing the seat to move in the track.

Power seat

Most Fordicon1.png products are designed so the seat belt latch by the center console moves with the seat. The bottom of the latch rides on the seat rail, and with time sometimes it builds up a little play on the rail. As the seat moves forward or back, the seat belt guide often tilts forward or back, just a bit, on the rail, and gets stuck. So you can move forward or back just a bit, but then it jams and you can hear the motor, but can go no further.

The long term fix is to remove the seat, disassemble the seat belt guide and rail, and usually replace some parts.

But the short term solution is often to simply hold on to the seat belt latch and rock it forward and away from the seat as you try to go forward or back. Or, sometimes it works besticon1.png to rock it backwards and away from the seat as you try to move forward or back. It all depends on which way it is binding.

There's no guarantee that it won't jam again if you move it all the way back or forward, but once you find the right position to hold the seat latch in while moving the seat, you should be able to re-adjust it where you need it to be.

I have a 98 oldsmobile intrigue. I try to start it up today and it makes a cranking noise and it wont turn over. What is the problem?

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ?
It could be a relay, the ignition module, coil, fuel pump, or a list of other things.

Drivers seat does not move in the backward mode.all the other switch functions work properly.the seat is all the way forward and I cannot get in the drivers seat. I appreciate your help, thank you.

ssqsantiago, What you have to do is look under the seat and look for the electrical connections. You may find that one of the connections has a broken wire. If not, then disconnect each connection one at a time and look for any rusted pin or wires. If there are none of the above then what you can do is to figure out which motor moves the seat forward and backward and apply direct power to the motor. You will need a 12 volt battery for this and wires long enough to reach the motors connection. If the motor does not react to the power source then reverse the wires. If the motor still does not react at this time then the motor will have to be replaced. What you can do in the meantime is remove the motor and try to move the seat manually. Good luck with this.

Why would the drivers seat not move forward but still go up or down on a 1998 Cadilac Deville?

This is due to a bad switch or seatmotor, the seat uses diffrent motors to control the seat so seat can still tilt but not move back or forward, this best way to know which ic the problem is with a testlight, hold the switch to move forward or back and test for power and a ground to that motor, if theres power and ground then motor is bad, if theres no power then switch is bad, hope this helps.

Front drivers seat electric position button won't move seat back

Check the fuse. The fuse box is located on the passengers side at the side of the dashboard. Also check the fuses that are located under the hood. The location for fuses are in your car manual.

Service engine soon light

The MIL light AKA service engine soon light comes on to warn of a malfunction in the emission control system or a problem with electronic engine controls like fuel control, there will be one or more trouble codes stored in the PCM (powertrain control module) to show what system or sensor has an issue/problem, take the car to any Kragen Auto, Auto Zone or other chain parts store and they will test it for free, write down the trouble code or code's and post them back on this same thread for me to look at, then we will have some info on what to fix to get the light to go out, also have them reset the light when they test it, it will come back on in a few days, but maybe we can fix it before then, OK?
