The clock will not light up and the radio will not turn on. Then as I was driving the clock came on and the radio worked for about 5 min and all went off again.

On the components, you might try a separate ground. See if that helps? Check the battery negative connections. I've seen this even on newer vehicle where instrument cluster or whatever would dim a little when you turn on headlamps. I think it's a ground issue? Just my opinion.
On any component that doesn't work, check voltage and ground, you could try a redundant ground.
Unhook the battery positive post, touch the cable to the negative post to make sure it's drained, then re-attatch. Note that you will have to reset radio stations and clocks.
The memory wire of the radio,(the power for the clock and channel settings) is usually connected to the same circuit as the cigarette lighter. (there is a seperate fuse for radio) Check your cigarette lighter socket for damage or dirt, etc. could be causing the memory fuse to blow. Also check your cig lighter accesories (like cell phone chargers, etc.)
P.S. The backlight is also a seperate circuit (connected to interior light/parking light circuit)
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHOLE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT OFF NO RPM, NO TEMP, NO CLOCK, NO ENGINE LIGHT, OR ANY OTHER WARNING LIGHTS, ONLY THE TURNING SIGNALS AND THE BATTERY LIGHT WORKED. SEAT BELTS AND WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING. MY RADIO HAS BEEN INSTALLED FOR OVER 4 MONTHS SO I REALLY DOUBT IT IS THE RADIO. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT IT COULD BE PLEASE LET IT BE KNOWN. ALL FUSES ARE GOOD ALSO.
