Re: Crank time increased, if turn key on and wait ten...
MAYBE THERE IS NO RELAY TO THE FUEL PUMP, IT STAYS ON WHILE THERE IS POWER TO RUN THE MOTOR. WHEN YOU TURN THE STARTER KEY CAN YOU HEAR THE HUMMING OF THE PUMP?

Does fuel pump run ? Remove fuel cap. Have someone crank it for you,you should hear fuel pump running. If not bang on bottom of tank while cranking. If it starts fuel pump will need replacing , if not check for power to pump, if it has power, replace pump. If no power, check relay for operation
Your fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and every time you turn on the ignition switch the fuel pump will start and pressurize the fuel line for a regular starting cycle. But, since your fuel lines are totally empty. I would turn on the ignition for a 20 second period. then turn it off for a few minutes to let the system fuel system reset and then turn the key back on for the same amount of time and do this for at least 4 times. Each time you turn on the key if you have waited long enough to allow the fuel system to reset. This will in the end fill the fuel lines and fuel rail on the engine and then you should be able to crank the engine and start ok. do not crank the engine until after you have cycled the ignition key about four times and wait about 2 minutes in-between cycles.
Have a nice day, regards, Dennis
Try replacing the cold starting valve. Also, it would save the battery and starter by cranking a couple of turns then stop. Wait a few seconds giving the fuel time to run into the engine and crank again. It should fire right up. Count to ten.
You hook up a fuel pressure gauge . No pressure does not mean the fuel pump is bad , could be a electrical problem . Fuel pump relay , A bad crankshaft postion sensor , if the PCM doesn't see an input from the crank sensor it will not energize the fuel pump relay . And Turning on the key to run for 2 seconds will energizes the fuel pump relay to prime the fuel system . An It will prime the system just that quick . Knowing how it works is key to fixing the problem . Testing at the relay . Fuel pump electrical circuit diagnosis no fuel pressure testing GM
If the car will not crank then you have a battery, cable or starter issue. If the car will crank but not start then the problem may be the fuel pump relay. There should be an electrical diagram on the side of the relay. Apply 12v to either side of the coil and you should here a click. Then check for continuity between the other two terminals with voltage applied. If you have no continuity then the relay is bad.
Pump does nor know pressure pcm energizes asd. Relay turns on pump for ten seconds to ensure pressure at injectors is correct for initial cranking try cranking engine while hitting tank and see if it tries to start if it does the pump is worn out.
Turn the key to the ON position without starting the car You should hear the fuel pump running for 5 seconds to prime the fuel up to the engine so it can start. If no sound is coming from the fuel tank area which can be heard with the drivers door opened in a quite area the oil sending unit on the engine needs to be looked at. If its bad the fuel pump will not prime. If the oil sending unit is good the fuel pump is at fault instead Oil pressure to your engine achieves to close the circuit to this switch which the computer senses. When the oil pressure is up to normal standards the PCM shuts that circuit off and turns on the fuel pump relay
Replace the FUEL PUMP RELAY. Its located in the under hood relay center. This relay primes the pump with the key on, about 2 seconds, then the pump will not run until the engine has oil pressure, then the fuel pump is energized.
I think you have a faling fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator allowing fuel pressure to bleed down when the engine is off.
Try this test - When you start the car for the first time of the day, turn the key to "ON", wait a few seconds, turn the key off. Wait about 15 seconds, turn the key to "ON" again, wait a few seconds. Then wait one final time for 1 seconds and try starting the car. If it starts right away, that means fule pressure is bleeding of due to a bad check vavle int he fuel pump, a bad fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator.
The reason for the procedure is because when you turn the key to "ON", the fuel pump runs for 2 seconds and then shuts off if the engine is not running. The 15 seconds wait is for the power and fuel pump relay to cycle off before it will run the pump again.
Let us know how the test comes out. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and hums when it is running.
