Diagnosis of the system would normally require a scan tool. Since you just replaced the airbag on that side, logic says that it's the reason that the light is on. Did you replace it because it blew? Or was it for some other reason? Try disconnecting the battery for 30-60 minutes and then reconnecting it - it may be that since the bag was undone, the ECU has logged that fact and may need a reset to clear the SRS code. Try disconnecting the battery for an hour or so, or two, and then reconnecting it. Let me know as a reply on here if that worked, and we'll go from there if you still have the fault indication.

Hi,

  • Remove the trim panels in front of the center console. Locate the engine computer attached to a floor-mounted bracket on the transmission tunnel between the console and the firewall.
  • Turn the diagnostic mode selector, located in a round opening on the side of the engine computer, until it stops. Observe the small red and green LED lights on the side of the computer next to the mode selector. They will flash to indicate the modes, with a pause between each mode. One quick flash is mode one, two quick flashes is mode two and so on. When the light flashes indicate mode three, quickly turn the mode selector counterclockwise until it stops. You have entered mode three diagnostics.
  • Observe the red and green LED lights on the side of the computer. The red light flashes to indicate the "Tens" digit of the code and the green light flashes to indicate the "Ones" digit of the code. For example, if the red light flashes two times and the green light flashes seven times, this would indicate code 27.
  • Turn the ignition key off for two minutes to exit diagnostics. The computer will automatically return to mode one for normal operation.

It is built into the main engine control processor called the PCM and it talks to other modules, so it is not just one part.

Try twinturbo.net. plenty of 300zx enthusiasts and info on that site. Has a tech forum and links to faq. Look around and search. I go there for help on my 93 Z. And no, it doesn't have to be a turbo model.

Nissan 300zx transmission replacement

No, that is not true, you can only use one from another 300ZX, 1990-91 for a manual transmission, 1990-93 for an automatic. Also you have to get the one for if you have twin turbo, or one if you don't.

Hi I havw question how many gears have 1991 nissan 300 zx tt automatic and when at chenging gears (rev) I heard around 4000rpm.

300zx auto will have 4 gears. 1-3 are normal running gears 4th is said to be an "overdrive" gear.

shift points should be under 4krpm, with light driving. my 300zx non-turbo usually shifts around 2-3K.

throttle position sensor could need adjustment or replacement. trans fluid should be checked to see if it's in good shape and full.

Cannot get 1991 300 zx (manuel) non-turbo to shift in 1st and third gear

Most likely it is worn synchros. Try changing out the transmission fluid and run Redline MT90 in it instead. The fourth gear synchros were a known weak spot on the Z32 cars, but other gears could also develop trouble. MT90 is known to alleviate a lot of shifting problems related to synchros in the Z, so it's worth a shot.
