Um, sounds like you have a leak somewhere. What is your question?
If it had been overfilled, you would still see oil on the dipstick. You've said "no oil on the dipstick". Major oil leaks are easy to find, fill it up again, and start it up. Look underneath and see where it's coming out. Could be oil filter not tightened or perhaps even installed...
If the person doing the rebuild isn't familiar with Civic engines, the one time I did one, I didn't notice that the head bolts aren't all the same (1/2" different), and several pulled out while driving. I bought a replacement engine and had it installed.

It is either a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Depending on which motor your civic has, this could be a tricky replacement, either way, you have to remove the head off of the motor, and then take the head to have it pressure checked to see if there is a crack in it. Nine times out of ten though, you can see a crack in the head with your eye, but you have to have the right "eye" to be able to see the crack.

I suppose the engine code said that cylinder was not firing or faulty? I would immediately get a compression check done on the engine. It is relatively painless. My burnt valves (compression 10psi vs 150psi) could not be diagnosed any other way. Does this help?

have you check the ground wire from your negative wire to battery post? check to see the battery is strong. if it doesn't turn over the engine or crank the engine mean no good ground to the cables. if the car ran fine I dont understand why the car wont crank or turn the motor over it just quit. if the battery check out strong 12 V, starter serenoid may be faulty on your starter or it may be hot and will not turn starter over.

sounds like it could have ignition module failing, also possibly coil starting to go.I seen same problem on 92 hatchback, put module and coil on and runs fine.goodluck...

Just wondering where it might be leaking or if there is something I didn't tighten down good enough. The guy that was helping might have to much oil in it is that possible?
