Not sure I follow your story. If you really did run out of gas, you may have damaged the fuel pump in the tank. But it would not cause any smells.
Can you tell where the smell is coming from ?
It is normal for the fan to run for a short while (few minutes) after turning off the car to allow the heat in the radiator to dissipate. The time may be dependent on the coolant temperature or it could just be a fixed time (i.e. so many minutes). The burning smell could be a loose belt, but I suspect the radiator fan is electrical and not belt-driven. I think the burning smell could be oil from a leaking gasket. The oil drips onto the hot engine and voila... burnt oil. Not sure what you mean by new (new to you or 2013-14 model), but new cars should not have any leaking fluids. A stuck break caliper could aslo produce a burning smell.
Sounds like the A/C compressor clutch has overheated and become inoperable. Open the hood, start engine, observe the compressor face. It should be turning and also see if that's where the noise and burning smell is coming from. Good luck!!!
had same problem. neons are bad for the gas filler tube rusting out. there has to be pressure in the tank for the car to run.check and see if yours is rusted out or hole in it somewhere.
You can NOT check ATF when the engine is off. It must be running. If the ATF is dark, brown, or smells burned, then you need to change it, but it is probably too late. When you turn the engine off, the fluid in the torque converter drains back and gives a reading much higher than real.
Pulling the battery is fine, I would suggest the remote starter or the ignition switch are bad. Its not the solenoid if it starts the car, solenoids default to off not to on.
