check for the leak at the hose housing on the block as they are prone to corrosion under the hose and developing holes. Do the checking while the radiator is under a pressure test then the leak can be easily seen with out the need to have the engine running or be hot.. Check the drain hole under the water pump as the pump seal may be leaking.
its not normal. the water pump will leak in front, not back. There is a pipe and hose down in the VEE that can leak. If the pipe is bad, you will need to remove the pump to replace it. The intake manifold will need to come off, to replace the pipe/ hose. the hose connects a pipe behind the water pump to a pipe at the rear of the block to a heater hose.
sounds like the water pump bearing is worn out and has detroyed the water pump shaft seal.
coolant is leaking thru the seal area ,due to the bearing worn out --hence throwing the water pump pulley out of alignment.
The water pump pulley runs of the timing belt.---hence the knocking --either from the pulley or belt chaffing against the timing cover or even throwing the engine timing a few degrees off.
Need to replace water pump and timeing belt and anything else that may be damaged.
That's why, when ever you do a timing belt always do the water pump too.
Hello,\
The thermostat is located in the thermostat housing at the engine side end of the upper radiator hose.
You have to drain the engine coolant from the radiator until it is below the level of where the thermostat is.
Yes it is probably the water pump which sets above the fly wheel and towards the front of the engine....it is against the passenger side wheel well at the "front" of the engine (front wheel drive engines sit like this) where your belts are. Replacing it is pretty complicated, depending on your skill level. The fact that the engine sits sideways and there isn't a lot of room to work on it makes it more difficult. You can find a diagram of it by going to autozone.com and putting the year, make and model in; go to the cooling and heating icon and click on water pump. They usually have diagrams that show the location.
there are 2 engines, which one? 2.5 or 2.3? i have never done one on a 2.5, so this is for a 2.3. jack up the car, pull the right front wheel. pull the splash shield. now, i like lots of room, so i drain the radiator, and pull off the upper hose. support the motor with a jack that you can move up and down, and pull the motor mount. on a 2.3, i can guarantee you the mount will be bad. now, this is important. you MUST loosen the bolts on the water pump pulley, and, most important of all, the nut on the power steering pulley. this must be done BEFORE you pull the drive belt, or you will never get the p/s pulley nut loose. this pulley has to come off to get the covers off. there's a lot more, but that will get you started. however, the millenia belt is kevlar, and they wear like iron. if the belt breaks, nothing will hit, but it will leave you stranded. i would just let it go till it breaks.
