My key won't turn in my ignition and now the steering wheel has locked. My boyfriend tried to force the key and now it's broken off inside the ignition switch. How do I remove the ignition cylinder

Or what is causing it to not turn at all? I've already tried the usual tricks of jiggling the key and the steering wheel and still nothing

SOURCE: ignition key will not turn

The steering wheel lock is preventing you from turning the ignition tumbler. Especially when the tires are turned all the way in one direction this can be very difficult to get free. What you need to do is wriggle the key as you attempt to move the steering wheel in the direction that it is already turned, it will take some force, but eventually the wheel will give just enough play to allow the key to turn and it will be just fine

SOURCE: My steering wheel locked and my key won't turn

Common problem with steering locks is that they can jam in position I recommend putting the key in and gently moving the steering wheel side to side as far as it will reasonably go without struggle and maintain even pressure on the key, this should hopefully work after a few seconds.
Hope this helps, Sion.

I am trying to get my 1985 GMC Vandura 2500 to start, but the steering g wheel is locked and the key won't turn to try and turn it over. What would be a cause of this?

If you vehicle is parked on a slant and the wheels are slightly turned, the pressure from the weight of the car may be forcing you steering wheel to bind. Try tweaking the steering wheel in the same direction that the wheels are turned using your left hand and at the same time try turning the key with your right hand. Tweaking the steering wheel takes the pressure off of the ignition switch. If that doesn't work, try a different key if you have one.

Why won't my ignition key turn over and my steering wheel is locked in place at the sametime?

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. Hope this helps, good luck

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry. The key is stuck in the lock position and won't turn, do I need a new ignition?

Try turning the steering wheel, fairly firmly, while trying the key. Sometimes a significant preload happens when the power assist is helping the wheel positioning, just prior to shutdown.

Key stuck in ignition but it will turn, and steering column won't lock and car won't start.

you most likely have a bad key switch cylinder assembly. you can try to spray wd40 solvent into the switch before you have the switch replaced, but sometimes it's a switch replacement that repairs the problem. have you inspected your ignition key to look for damage to the key itself? try a spare key to make sure it's the key,and not the key switch. you can also try turning the key while turning the steering wheel at the same time to get the key to work.sometimes the switch locks when parked in a bind, such as on a hill,or against a curb and so on. try this 1st before you have the ignition switch replaced. AAA auto club,if you're a member covers part of the replacement costs for a replacement switch also. you may have coverage through a cell phone also.one more thing to try, if you have a tilt steering column, try to reposition the steering wheel to see if you can get the key to turn. remember never force it enough to break your key off into the switch! thank you for choosing fixya.com!

Key won't turn and steering is lock on a 1990 Oldsmobile Calais?

Try to wiggle the steering wheel as you turn the key, the wheel may have some force on the lock so turn wheel to the right and try to turn key then turn left and try the key again. if this doesnt work then the ignition is worn and you will need to wiggle the key to get it to start also try to spary a little wd40 in the ignition key hole and work the key inside the ignition.

Key wont turn in ignition

Your steering lock is probably stuck, try turning the wheel while turning the key. It's pobably parked with it's wheels turned and so you need to jiggle the steering wheel hard back and forth while holding the key turned (with a moderate amout of force, not too much) If it still doesn't come out then your lock cylinder might be broken, but I suspect the above remedy will work for you. Cheers bro.

Key will not turn in ignition????

Try turning key around or use a spare key, make sure steering wheel isn't being forced against the internal lock. Are the wheels against a curb or object? if so turn steering wheel to relieve pressure on ignition lock.
other wise lock cylinder maybe worn out and will need replaced. Good luck!

Steering wheel locked in place, key will not turn...

Very likely the steering thrust stored in the tires attempting to turn back is forcing excessive tension against the steering lock.

Try (very hard) to turn the steering wheel either direction while turning the key gently.

If that solves it you can avoid this by letting go of the steering after stopping to park, turn off the ignition slowly (engine off, pause, then key out). This will ensure that the steering wheel comes to rest prior to locking the column.
