Could be the pump or rack and pinion. Pumps usually whine real bad before dieing(especially when turning). The rack can blow a seal and die all of the sudden.

SOURCE: power steering leak on a 1988 full size bronco

The gear box is a common problem on this model. That would be the place I would start. A cheap, temporary fix is to go to your local parts store and ask for Lucas Power Steering Stop-Leak. It will buy you some time.

SOURCE: 2003 Ford Escape leaking red fluid

Sounds like you need a new power steering hose. To verify this, I would dry up any wet areas on the hose and pump with a towel, get a flashlight and start the vehicle and try to determine the exact site of the leak which is usually at the ends of the hoses. Good luck!

99 Ford Taurus cooler line leak

First you need to see where the leak is. Watch the power system for leaks while someone is turning the steering wheel. Be careful not to get sprayed on. Is it a hose or a leak at the pump or on the rack and pinion steering? Is it even power steering fluid? Could it be transmission fluid? A transmission cooler line could be leaking.

Car is leaking power steering fluid can u give me the diagram for the high pressure power steering line

We do not have a diagram but follow the high pressure hose from the PS pump to the steering gear, clean it off with a pressure washer first and then you can id the leak which will be the high pressure hose I bet..

More than likely it's a hose that you'll need to replace. There's 2, one is pressure and one return.

My friends 1995 Ford Contour grinds when the steering wheel is moved. What can cause this?

It is normally caused by the power steering fluid being low. Check the power steering fluid level and top it off as needed.

My ford focus 04 auto makes a grinding noise when the steering is on full lock to the right also the power steering fluid gets low very quickly

you have a power steering leak, when in full lock position the power steering pump is actually sucking in air and this is your noise. you will have to locate the leak and replace the leaking part and fill it to proper level.Ford will accept trans fluid for power steering fluid.

96 ford contour poer steering fluid

Open the hood and look at the very back corner (passenger side) of the engine compartment, there will be a white plastic bottle with a black thread on lid. This is where the power steering fluid goes. The bottle has marks on the side of it to indicate how far to fill if needed.

Power steering went out on 1996 ford ranger what is problem?

The problem could be anything from a power steering hose has leaked out all the power steering fluid or the steering rack could be leaking fluid. Has the car made any strange noises when turning the steering wheel? A car that is loosing power steering fluid will at some point lose so much fluid as to make the power steering pump cavitate (starve for fluid) and the pump will make a high pitched noise when it has too little fluid in it. I can't remember if the 1996 ranger had only one belt on the engine or if the power steering has it own seperate belt. The belt being gone would prevent the power steering from working but if you only have one belt the car would also overheat.
