The lancer does not have a fuel filter, it does have a in the gas tank screen which is usually referred to as a sock which is attached to the electric fuel pump which helps some.
Some Mitsubishi owners or mechanics will install an inline after market gas filter for insurance against contaminates in the fuel, which is an excellent idea considering what dirty fuel can do to fuel injection system.

The fuel filter and pump is all one unit that you can get to it under neath the back seatand the unit runs for $90.00 or more depending where you get it at. You could also spend less if you go under partsgeek.com. I also recommend when you do it that the car has a half a tank of gas or less. Best of luck and let me know hiw it turned out

The fuel filter is located WITH the fuel pump AKA fuel module is what Mitsubishi calls this bundle, to access remove rear seats where you will find the cover to the assembly. The Fuel pump and Fuel Filter are intergrated to each other to save weight.
