Noticed a bit of smoke coming from under the hood. Opened to look and it seems there's oil next to the valve on my turbo.

Also noticed a few drops on the floor below. Does turbo even need oil?

Search internet for aftermarket "speed parts" or "racing parts " for your mini. There must be something. I think cast aluminum should work fine.

Does turbo need oil? Very much so. It has parts spinning at 30,000 rpms or so, and the bearings require oil to live. Clean cool engine thoroughly, and then run engine to find leak.

SO, I dried the oil next to turbo oil intake line and drove maybe 6 more miles on a highway. Parked it for couple hours and looked again. It was still dry where I cleaned and there was just couple of drops on the floor underneath. SO I went by a garage for a mechanic to look at. He said it looked like I may need a valve cover replaced. Really? Why? Can't I just replace a gasket under it?

Depends. Older cars with metal valve covers could usually be fixed with just a gasket change. Newer cars, especially turbo cars, operate at such high temps metal valve covers may warp, and plastic ones may degrade such that replacement is the only good option. The good news is this should not be an expensive part, and you may find that a better type replacement (cast aluminum) is available in the after market.

Yes, it feels like plastic, which is probably what it is, but a replacement part with a gasket is around $360. I'd love to get something stronger, like aluminum, but it may be affected in a different way, due to temps. I'm not much of a mechanic, but after replacing on my own the thermostat housing, I know for sure this one can be done at home.

I have isuzu bighorn '92 model automatic, there is a leaking oil under the intercooler turbo...is this normal?thanks.

Leaking of any fluid is not normal. The only time any fluid should expel from the car is if you have overfilled something. Your turbo could need replacing, you could have a hole in the intercooler. Have you noticed any lack of performance or extra smoke...

Smoking from under hood

A leak of some fluid, probably oil, dripping onto the exhaust. This smells terrible, and it only needs a drop or two.

2003 lincoln aviator/how do you know if there's motor damage

Your car shouldn't have just suddenly started burning oil. Its possible it's leaking in the engine compartment and the leak is dripping onto the hot exhaust manifold and the. The smoke is blowing out the back as you drive. I would think it's unlikely that the engine has been damaged since the check-engine light should have come on if the oil level was low enough to cause damage.

If hii find that bluish smoke is coming from the exhaust pipes, then the next thing to check is whether it smokes on acceleration or deceleration. If the latter, it may be just a valve issue. If it smokes a lot on startup, then it may be rings.

I have a ford mondeo diesel tdci 130 2ltr 20006 year bought car and on way home noticed dark-ish heavy smoke when turbo kicked in and got worse over next few days. car eventually went on to run in...

sounds about right for what i think it is ,now remove the EGR valve and make a gasket from a coca cola can and do not cut the middle out ,so it blocks it off completely then try it as i am almost positive this is your problem .

Smoke out of exhaust and loss of power

sounds like your turbo let loose. The smoke is the coolant that runs thru the intercooler which cools the turbo. I would say either remove the turbo from the system , or replace it.
which engine is in your car?
w/o B234R eng; (T25 turbo) [rare]
or
w/B234R eng (TD04 turbo) Garrett type? (tag72623 Garrett pt# 452083-15)

for a used Turbo you are looking at around $150 plus shipping. but you will need to know which turbo you have of course.

The intercooler is gonna run an additional $50 or so (Hollander part number 317-51291) plus shipping.

give me a zip and tell me which engine (or turbo) you have and I will be happy to get you hooked up with the salvage yard closest to you that has these parts.
