Well a lot of motor oil brands will have a high milage formula, I prefer synthetic oil for my engine but at 194k miles if you haven't used synthetic oil for the life of the engine it's kind of pointless to start using it now. On that model I believe the recommend change time for the oil is every 5k miles, I would start doing it at every 3k and not worry about synthetic.
Any 'off the shelf' conventional domestic power steering fluid. Bottle should state "domestic"(GM, FORD,CHRYSLER). For engine oil use a quality brand 5/30, Mobil 1, Valvoline ,etc..
Are you sure it is oil? I have a 2000 chevy malibu also and something similar happened to be but come to find out the radiator just needed to be flushed out and it was old rusty deposits.
Hi, you should use energy conserving oil from Mobil One or ELF synthetic
that comes from a container stating, "designed for use in GM vehicles".
You will save money on gas, on oil changes, sludge will NOT form inside
the engine, and everything will last longer.
You will need to use a 10W-30 grade engine oil, such as any of the following Mobil products. "Fully synthetic" oils are more expensive. Conventional oils or syn blend engine oils are fine for the vehicle but need to be changed more frequently.
The engine oil specification for 2000 Audi 2.8 V6 Quattro is: - Cold climate: 5W/30 or 5W/40 semi-synthetic - Moderate climate: 10W/30 or 10W/40 semi-synthetic - Hot climate: 10W/40 semi-synthetic
Long life service = MY 2000 ----> Engine oil grade: 0W/30 synthetic oil to VW specification 503.00/W12 and turbo engines above 154 kW / 200 PS = 503.01
The transmission oil type for Audi A4 MY 2000 with manual gearbox is: Synthetic oil SAE 75 W 90, part number G 052 145 S2 (1 liter).
Example:
Castrol Syntrax 75W-90
Full synthetic SAE 75W/90, API GL5. manual transmission, transaxle and rear axle lubricant with outstanding extreme pressure, synchroniser and high temperature performance.
Did your husband's friend say anything about synthetic oil? In my opinion i would never use that light of oil(5-w30) in anything its just to thin, to me its like putting water in the crankcase. The only reason the manufacture recamends it is because of gas milage the thinner the oil the less resistence the engine has to turn over hense better fuel milage. If it were me i would do some resurch on synthetic oil.
