code 55 on a 95 villager means "no codes found". If you are getting this code but the check engine light is on as well as the ABS light, then there is a good chance there is a problem with the ABS system itself. Manufacturers will often set it up so that multiple trouble lights will turn on to get your attention in the event of a major problem. If these lights are on together but you are getting 55, you will need to check the ABS system. It could be low brake fluid, or a problem with the ABS pump... There is also a chance that there is a blown fuse for either the ABS system or the diagnostics system which could also cause lights to turn on. One other possibility is that they are on for a factory set maintenance/service interval, meaning Mercury may have set these lights to turn on at a pre set mileage so that you will have the ABS system inspected at that point, although I don't believe this was very common in 95. My best advice is to check your fuses and fluid level, if none of these are the problem it might be a good idea to seek the help of a professional garage, you should never take chances when you're brakes are involved. Good luck :)
The warning light has very little to do with the hydraulic brake system. The ABS system uses the hydraulic system to prevent the brakes from locking up. You would need to have the body computer scanned for trouble codes to proceed with repairs.
If the abs light is on than there is a problem with the abs. If the problem was fixed the light would go out on it's own once the self test completed successfully when you started the vehicle. If you have not pulled codes or made a repair than turning off the light with a scan tool capable of reading abs data will only result in the light coming back on when the abs module still sees the fault present when you start the vehicle the next time.
The first thing to do is find out what codes are present. Then focus on that part of the abs system.
If you know the code or find out what the code is post it and I'll help you figure it out.
when the abs light comes on that disables the abs wich frees up your brakes u will need to go to the shop and have a code pull done on your car to figure out what is setting the abs code
If you have to jump the battery, then either the altenator or voltage regulator (built in altenator) is bad. Most part stores will test it for free. Even in the vehicle. Either the altenator/regulator is bad, or there is a short draining the battery. The is a seperate issue. Could be bad abs pump or circuit which will have to be diagnosed with a code scanner or engine diagnostic machine just for abs systems.
NOTE: The first code to flash will be the start code (12). Also, each code is repeated three times before proceeding to the next trouble code.
