2005 Avalon, I changed the dead battery and think the cables touched. Now it won't turn over. The push button start goes green but the car doesn't engage anything to start. Thoughts?

Hello, check the large fuses in the fuse box under the hood, there is a 140 alternator fuse which is larger than the rest, it may be blown due to the short circuit, some models use an integrated fusible link assembly, these are about 1/4" wide and about 3" long and have either a blue or brown top, both versions are bolted in on the inside of the box, in some cases the sub fuse holder can be released from the box and pulled up enough so that you can remove the bolts.

I'm thinking its possible you may have a short(wires touching together or on metal) somewhere. But before anything I would check your fuses. Also make sure your battery terminals are tight.

It sounds like you have a bad actuator. This is attached to the starter and has a solonoid that pushes the starter motor gears into the engine gear. If the solonoid is faulty this may happen. Also check alignment of the same.

Sounds like you have a toasted battery or alternator. Have you performed a load test on the battery? Have you tried to charge the battery? First remove the battery and charge it externally from the vehicle. If the battery won't hold a charge, or won't hold a charge of 12 volts, replace it. Once you have the vehicle started, test the operation of the alternator. It should be putting out at least 13 volts back to the battery to keep it charged - if it is putting less than 13 volts or more than 16 volts, replace the alternator.

My 2005 caravan won't start. When I turn the key I hear a clicking sound but it doesn't start. It worked fine earliar today. The battery is fine for now.

Possible causes are: 1. Loose or corroded battery cables. 2. Bad starter 3. Dead battery. Try tapping on the starter with a hammer while someone is holding the key in the start position. If it starts then replace the starter. Thanks
