Follow cable from throttle linkage area to transmission. Check that where it attaches, to transmission, moves freely with gas pedal to floor & then released. Vehicle off, in park obviously. It may be a seized throttle valve linkage, just apply penetrating lube like WD-40, and try getting it to move farther & more free by hand, as well as with pedal until it returns all the way as it should. Let me know what you find.

Jeep Grand Cherokee shuts off at idle while stopped. RPM fluctuates then engine eventually dies.

your idle air control valve is going out located behind the throttle body.

My 96 Jeep has trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. The rpms go up to 4500 then it shifts.

That sounds like the 1st thing to check is the transmission fluid.Start the car ,warm it up,now shift through all the gears and stop in (N).With the engine running, check the fluid level.Top up if needed. If you do,look for leaks.Hope this helps

1998 jeep grand cherokee shuts off while driving and backfires

Check the cables going to the computer box in case yours is the fuel injected type. You may have a bad MAp sensor. The device which tells how many fuel should be fed to the engine. Check also if the fuel is consistently being supplied from the fuel filter to the engine and before the fuel filter. Fuel filter may need replacing.

I have a 99 jeep grand cherokee ltd, 4.0 L, 6cyl, auto, 4wd, 87000 miles. My problem is that on the first start of the day and when the engine is cold, the transmission wont shift from 2nd to 3rd until...

I'd begin by having the trans fluid changed and making sure there isn't an excessive amount of debris in the pan (there is always some but should not be obviously a lot) You may have a slight varnish buildup inside that becomes less sticky as the internal temp rises.

My transmisson makes a weezing sound when im at low speed

You sure its the transmission? Wheezing sound is usually the catylitic converter becoming plugged. Also...at 3-5K rpm you are not idling, you are reving the engine...(in that case, trans may be slipping or flairing between shifts, unless the unit is staying in one gear and just delaying shift till you reach that rpm. actual shift point should be close to 2,000rpm) I'd check the cat first.

02 jeep grand cher. stays in 1st gear till 4500 rpm's before changing. I replaced the transmission speed sensor and it was fine for about 3 weeks then started it again. Would a shift solenoid sensor help...

Which trans do you have??? The 4.7 has the 45RFE and the 4.0 has the 42RE. If you have the 42RE, try replacing the connector on the output speed sensor. I have seen intermittent problems with the connectors as they get older leading to falling into low gear and not shifting up
