No, (mostly) the range switch in the tranmission
tells the PCM (TCM) what gear you've selected.
but if it might if it range shows starting in gear.

why not scan the PCM and fix what it shows is bad.
why not post all DTC errors. let folks tell you what checks are next.
crank for 5 seconds, release key, put eyes on scan tool
see all those DTC errors. P03xx or others. like P0700 or?
or immoblizer? errors?

    check fuses first.
is the CEL check engine light on, keyon, not started.? if not the PCM lost power.
    fuses. top list.
if the ECU scans ok, crank for 5 seconds
the ECU will report causes of lost spark.
most.... as will dash immoblizer lamp glowing, is it?

lost spark , is cased by, shorted spark plugs. but not all at once, bad spark HV wires but can be 2 at once "wasted spark systems" or CMP sensor dead, and some CKP sensor dead, ignitor dead, coil pack blown or PCM dead. or fuse blown to PCM or Ignition coil or related parts, or wires bad to any of the above. or the immobilizer on some cars cut spark but many only cut fuel.... Im not looking yours up. because.... 4 engines opted.
and because we check fuses 1st, scan 2nd.
and also check all cylinders for spark loss no just one.

My 1999 Buick LaSabre dies after 15 minutes and will not restart til it cools down for 1 or 2 hours?

Have you done any testing? Any applicable trouble codes? How long since a tune-up?
When the vehicle stalls do some testing, if the engine is hot, wear gloves. Use a spark tester, check for spark with engine cranking. If spark everywhere, at least you know that system is ok.
If you lose rpm signal, during cranking, no spark, no fuel injector pulse. I have seen crank sensors that would do that, the rpm signal comes from crank sensor. Your not giving us enough info to determine if it is the crank sensor?

Have a pontica Grand Prix 2006 v 6 engine turns over have no spark at spark plugs have no 12volts icm check fues under hood change crank shaft position sensor all so change ingnition switch need help

When you change a crankshaft position sensor, your engine computer will lose the readings for the crankshaft position and thus lose the spark timing.
Your vehicle now needs what is called a "CASE learn" to run now and will not run until this is done, regardless of anything else. This procedure will essentially allow your PCM to reprogram the timing back to normal. Most dealership and repair garages can get you going.

Cant Find a list of codes 1989 Buick Century. Car stalls and has a rough idle. coads are 31 43 and 44

Here is a code list for you. Remember this doesn't always mena a sensor issue, the problem can be in the wiring as well, or in the case of a lean code you may have an actual lean condition due to a vacuum leak at the intake or vacuum hoses or connections. I have highlighted your fault codes and added extra notes.
GM common codes for OBD1 (for vehicles made before 1995)
12 System normal
13 oxygen sensor circuit open
14 coolant sensor high resistance or shorted
15 coolant sensor circuit low or open
16 direct ignition system (DIS) fault in circuit
17 cam position sensor fault
18 crank or cam sensor error
19 crank sensor circuit fault
21 tps sensor out of range
22 tps sensor signal voltage low
23 intake air temp sensor out of range, low
24 vehicle speed (vss) sensor circuit fault
25 air temp sensor sensor out of range, high
26 quad-driver module (computer) circuit #1 fault
27 quad-driver module (computer) 2nd gear circuit
28 quad-driver module (computer) circuit #2 fault

39 clutch input circuit fault
41 cam sensor circuit fault, igntion control circuit fault
42 electronic spark timing (EST) circuit grounded
43 knock sensor malfunction or electronic spark control (ESC) circuit fault (ignore this for now)

45 oxygen sensor rich exhaust
46 pass-key II circuit or ps.pressure switch circuit fault

After a half hour, it starts but it loses spark

have car scanned to find problem code if light is on. a bad crank or cam sensor will cause this. if crank sensor is bad, the vehicle will not start up after a stall for at least 20 minutes. the crank sensor sends timing info to pcm.

I need to know what the code 18 and 41 means for 93 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with a 3.8 litre supercharged eng

When fixing codes start with first code first / it dos not always mean that the sensor is the fault ,it could be in the harness / the plug or the ground. and reference signal should be tested , but in this case you most likely could get away with replacing the cam sensor, that would be the Lest expensive and easiest to start with,to git to it you will have to remove the alternator hope this is help full, the other code suggest that it could be the crank sensor , that and the plug for it does fail quite often but first things first feel free to ask if you should have any further questions , Thank you ,
