check the brake light switch. It could be defective and it costs less than $30 and easy to replace. Buy an OEM from the dealer instead of a $10 one from the auto parts store. It is located above the brake pedal.

SOURCE: how do i replace the door handle on the sliding

These are fun,. it would be in your best interest to contact your local library and see if they have the chilton and or haynes repair manual for your vehicle in stock,. if so, go take it out and read it as this can/ will be tricky at best otherwise.

If your local library doesn't have it, try your local auto parts store for around 25 bucks...

FYI: CALL FIRST & CONFIRM the book is there, otherwise it may have been hijacked from the library and not recorded...

1999 MERCURY VILLAGER IS MISSING AND BACK FIRING

You need to explain who works on
your vehicles, when you have these issues

We could write a book, and you go down the
street, to a repair shop, not having a clue what we said

What has been done to diagnose your current issues?

Check Lights on Dash?

Missing when,uphill under a load,at idle etc?

Is that a Mazda or Nissan Engine?

1999 Villager: my 1999 mercury villager wont start,it turns over ...

Probably a bad distributor. The cam sensor and optical sensor are under the slotted wheel and when the bearing goes, it gets brown dust on the optical sensor. Temp fix is to clean the optical sensor, but you will need a reman distributor, $200 on ebay. 1999 was famous for this issue.
