Dashboard malfunctions on the Saab 900SE turbo

When I start the car up, the dashboard doesn't function, while in drive, the speedometer doesn't register, the tachometer doesn't register, the oil levels don't register. After it's on the road for 30 or more minutes, everything starts working. I never know how fast or slow I am going, or whether the gas tank is empty or half full.

The car is a 1998 Saab 900SE Turbo, convertible.

How can I get these problems fixed?

Same happened to mine. There's a single plug style connector on the back of the cluster panel, you need to pull the bottom panel covers (there's 2) and reach up in and snap the plug back in place. It's directly above the steering column so you can only stick your fingers far enough to reach it but it worked for me

1996 Saab 900SE 2.0 turbo wont start. replaced bad fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, AIT sensor.

Look for a fuel reset. Not quite enough info on what is happening but I am going to take a leap of faith and assume it is turning over but not getting gas. Look in your manual for where the fuel reset is. Usually behind a foot panel in the front passenger side.

My 1996 saab Turbo 9000 CSE turbo recently the speedometer and odometer stopped working, car felt like it would drag slightly while driving, then they started working again. Why?

those units are connected to the VSS sensor which also reports to the TCM for ratio changes
run the fault codes and see if the VSS is in the codes

Saab 900se at a ignition start it almost starts but all lights and signs on the dashboard dims out and engine dies why but will start at a second go

What you describe is a battery problem. have a load test done as new batteries can fail just as easy as old ones. check the all battery terminals and posts are shiny clean and tight.

I have 1995 saab 900SE convertible with sensetronic gearbox. the car can not move forward or back.it has check engine ,SRS,light on the dashboard.can you help?

i would have it converted to a regular 5 speed not very hard to do and parts are reletivley inexpensive used, you will need a clutch pedal assembly and a gearbox out of a 96-01 saab 9-3 with all the clutch lines and then its a matter of changing out a few plugs to trick the comuter, there is a write up on this if you are interested will save you lots of headaches down the road -jeff

Dashboard lights

does it light up like a christmas tree? I had a simliar problem last year on my 2000 9.5 aero. I beleive it was the tcs on, tcs off, emergency light, and 2 others, i forget now. After paying the saab dealer $800 to try and diagnose it, finally they came up with a faulty abs switch. Cost to replace was over 3k. I took it to my other mechanic and he found one in a junk yard for half the price. I had it replaced over a year now and it works fine.
Have them check out the ABS switch. I later found simliar info on the web of other saab dealers

This happend to my car and it was the ABS module that failed. It does not harm your car you just don't have ABS. Try to replace the ABS sensor first since it is a lot less expensive and a lot less work. If that does not do the trick you will most likely have to replace the module itself. That cost big $$. A new one is about 1200-1500. I bought one from a wrecked card for 300 and it has worked fine for years.
