Po301 is a cylinder misfire indication. Could be plugs, ignition wiring or other. Check out the Taurus club site:

Well, this is just a guess, but it sounds like you may be running up against your rev limitter. I know what my rpm's are in both my 4cyl escort and my v8 porsche,@ 70mph its about 2800 ;-) I suspect you have a manuel trans? Shift a little sooner or get it chipped, in this case reprogramed.

So a p0301 means miss fire on cylinder one. Can be caused by a fualty spark plug and/or spark plug wire. So to fix if you replace one spark plug and/or wire then I would do all.
