Do you have floor console shifter ?
Shift Interlock System A brake/shifter interlock system consists of the following:

  • ignition switch (11572)
  • brake pedal stoplight switch (13480)
  • brake shift interlock module
  • brake shift interlock solenoid assembly (attached to key interlock assembly)
  • necessary wiring
On floor-shift vehicles, the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719):
  • locks the floor shift transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  • requires the floor shift transaxle range selector lever to be in the PARK position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

SOURCE: shift linkage problem on 2000 ford focus

Either the shift cable or the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment. Be sure no bolts or jam nuts are loose, then adjust the cable shorter to make the lever go all the way to park. Also make sure the cable brackets that hold the cable in place are secure

I have a 2000 ford taurus and i have no reverse lights.I changed the bulbs and checked the fuse. The brake lights and tail lights work.my high mount brake light does not work.

The reverse lights work off the manual lever position switch..When you open the hood look on the driver side right over the transmission,..Youll see where the shifter linkage hook up..Right on the linkage on the transmission is a sensor which moves when you select different gear..

Check the linkage on your steering column, first. You can disconnect it from the transmission, then see if it moves freely.

did you hook up the flywheel to the torque converter? the clicking and grinding noise could be the trans is in park and the flywheel is going around, or the torque converter is bound up and not properly in the pump of the trans, and the clicking and grinding could be the parking pawl trying to stop and lock the trans.(this is what stops the car from rolling) I think its a torque converter alignment problem.

1993 ford taurus won't shift out of park

It may be the sensor or the linkage that goes from brake to tranny. The linkage may need to be adjusted.

Everytime I put my car i park it goes into reverse.

It sounds like you have a damaged shifter cable. It is an adjustable cable but if it is that far out of adjustment then it is probably damaged. Replace it.
