2005 Ford Freestar, it doesn't do it all the time but ever so often it will idle real fast and when you put it in drive it dies. Won't take reverse either. After it sits about a day it will run fine again. Told could be torque converter or air flow sensor.
If it dies right when you put it in gear. It would be the valve body or the torque converter lock up solenoid sticking. These can be checked and replaced with out pulling the transmission. The codes have to be read, Since it is intermittent, you have to use a scanner to look at history codes.
Testimonial: "Transmission mechanic said he couldn't find anything wrong with the transmission. Had new axles put on and had the pcm cleaned. Still doing the same thing...."
Since it is intermittent, The you have to find the area it is messing up in. Next time it idles high, leave it running and open the hood. Start grabbing wires and wiggle them. If it idles down, remember what area that was. You can repost, most likely you have a shorted wire around there. Were there any codes? history codes?, pending codes?
