SOURCE: how do I check the transmission fluid of my 98 Isuzu trooper ?

In fact, you can. The large transmission pan has two plugs in the bottom. The higher one is a fill plug. The lower one is a drain plug. The proper procedure for checking the level is: A) Drive vehicle until transmission reaches operating temperature (go for a 30 min drive). B) Park vehicle and apply emergency brake, run gear selector through all gears (engine running, pausing 5 sec.'s in each gear) from Park, down, and back to Park (very important to be in park when checking level). C) Immediately remove the upper fill plug and check level with your finger, it should be just up to the hole, fill as necessary. NOTE: If more than a dribble of fluid drains out when you first open the fill plug then it was overfilled or the procedure was not followed. Use a catch pan under the hole just in case. Filling of the fluid is by means of a small pump and hose, commonly found at auto parts stores.

SOURCE: 1995 isuzu trooper manual transmission

Hello smeet3992: The transmission uses 5w-30 for tempretures up to 95 degreese in tempreture. Uses 15w-40 for all tempretures greater then 50 degreese. If you are in an area that has extreme fluctuation in tempretures I would use the 15w-4o engine oil. I also senrt a picture of where to check the oil at. Make sure you pull the right plug. The reverse idler pin has the same size bolt head.

SOURCE: 2000 ISUZU TROOPER WITH AUTO TRANSMISSION. CHECK

If the fluid is up -
it could be a vacume loss or the shifting module..
The shifting module is what tells it to shift - and it is controled by vacume pressure..

Where to check tranny fluid, cant find dipstick??

1999 Isuzu Troopers w/automatic transmissions do not come with a dipstick. It is a sealed transmission just like a manual transmission. The fluid must be checked by removing the fill plug. Emergency brake on, engine running, warmed up ,vehicle in neutral. When removing the fill plug ,which is on the side of transmission- at the top, fluid should slightly drip out. If fluid doesnt drip out you need to add fluid. You will need a small hand pump to fill it.

Dont know the location for the auto transmission ckeck/fill dipst

Unfortunatly you cannot check the transmission, or add fluid yourself. You have to take it to a dealer, or a transmission specialist. That's not strictly true. The Trooper uses a GM "closed" transmission system. Its possible to do it yourself, but a real pain and requires some kind of pump system to pump in the fluid from below the vehicle. There are 2 filling bolts on the transmission pan, the lower one is the drain, the higher one towards the pan corner is the fill/level plug. You must remove the fill plug and pump fluid into it until it starts to run back out. Run the engine to distribute and warm the fluid, then check the level again, topping up if necessary. Replace the plug using new seal.

Where do you add transmission fluid

i believe your trooper is like my isuzu rodeo which have a sealed transmission which could be checked by yourself by srewing off the bolt on the top of the tranny, or take it to a transmission place and they will charge you about $140 to replace the fluids on it

Cannot locate the filler plug for the transmission. need to know where to add tranny fluid to

usually there is a dipstick for the tranny fluid. if you can find that you add the fluid through there with a funnel. other wise you will have to look on top of the tranny for a check plug.
