P0700 is a generic transmission code. Says you have a malfunction. You have to retrieve the transmission codes to see where the problem may be. Use a better code reader or a scanner.A scanner will give numbers and you can look at what's working.

Check the wire harness, make sure there are no breaks or crushed wires. Also check the wire harness to the TCM, look for any loose connections. Good luck and keep me posted. Be glad to help.

I have a 2005 Dodge Stratus that sometimes will shift into 2nd gear and sometimes won't. The codes read P0700 and P0888.

Question edited for clarity. Code are P-Zero, not P-Oh (letter)

This is a well documented issue. See the articles and video.

I have a 2005 Dodge Stratus error code P0700 when the light comes on it wont shift out of 2nd gear. Where is the sensor located?

Code 700 is a generic code that means there is a problem with the transmission control module. It could be the module, or something else causing the module not to work correctly.
You would need a scanner and a repair book to get the test procedure.

2006 Dodge Stratus, wouldn't shift had to drive home extremely slow, check engine light came on and checked codes got P0700

First p0700 is only a generic information code. If you haven't received another code you probably have one pending, have it scanned again. I would start by checking trans fluid level. I believe with the stratus you check you transmission with the car in neutral, at operating temp and on flat level ground with wheel chocks to make sure car doesn't move. fluid should be a nice red color and clean. If orange its probably burnt or in need of service, if black probably needs repairs. If that looks good depending on your code I would say a trans shift solenoid went bad. Keep me updated with that other code.
