if the engine was running for a time before you selected a gear, you would have heard a serious noise before it stopped if anything went wrong ( top or bottom)
try removing the starter motor as it is possible that the pinion stayed engaged in the ring gear and the starter motor is jammed ( burnt out in the armature and bushes)
it it turns backwards on the bar it could be the starter or a problem in the gear box or torque converter
Sounds like a bad battery. A number of chain auto parts stores will check it and your charging system free. Before that, if your battery has removable caps, check the water level, if it's down, fill to the bottom of the fill rings and charge the battery, if you have a battery hydrometer, all the cells should have about the same charge level, if one or more show a lot lower than the others, battery is probably bad. Hope this helps.
Take it back to where you got it and make them refund your purchase price. If they refuse and you finianced it go to them, There a law called "The Lemon Law" that makes it unlawful to sell something like that. Sounds like you sure bought one. Don't do anything to it just get hold of the place where you bought it and tell them to come get their junk out of your yard!

knock sensor is working at least right but unfortuanantly thats all that is working
it is likely a knock isue check the motor oil it is not un usual for a nisan to knock when the oil is low but on rare ocation it will kick so hard the knock sensor will activate
Have the water pump checked. The bearing maybe seizing up causing the pulley to jam and smoke up the belt. Also as the motor got hot from pump not spinning, may have caused the motor to shut down as an overheating precatuion.
Did anyone check the clutch interlock switch? It's possible the position is out of adjustment. My 2008 SRT4 is right at the bottom. If you don't push the clutch ALL the way down, it won't start.
