I am assuming the cruise controls are in the steering wheel pad....if so....the "clock spring" for the air bag and steering wheel controls has most likely failed. It allows the steering wheel to turn back and forth with an electrical connection for air bag actuation and any controls that are present in the steering wheel horn pad/air bag.
This will require an experienced technician to solidify the diagnosis and repair, due to the dangers involved in air bag deactivation and removal to get to clock spring.
If any work was done could be some damage .!!!
Most likely discs on steering column are faulty, if this happened after they worked on the column, it could be fairly easy to fix, May be just a loose connection.
Also the cruise could be remote control like in some cars and the fact that they stopped working at the same time is just a coincidence.
Damage wires in steering wheel
Do not play there, unless you read the FSM
and defeat air bags first.
