SOURCE: window dropped into rear door panel. How do I remove the panel & repair

the window regulator has failed. the door panel has to be removed first which requires removing the trim piece that is on the grab handle (extremely hard to remove without breaking) there are three of four screws that hold the door panel on. once the door panel is off, the vapor barrier has to be removed. don't tear it, it is there for a reason to keep water out of the vehicle. make sure you reseal it properly with window weld. once the vapor barrier is removed you will need to unclip the window glass from the regulator. i typically will take and break the tab that holds the window. once the window is loose, move the glass all the way to the top of the door. now remove the regulator, swap the motor over, and reassembly. i would recommend taking the vehicle to a bmw dealership, around $650 for the complete repair and the dealership will stand behind their repairs

SOURCE: I have to replace the power window motor on my BMW X5

Hi Racegas, I am assuming you need to take off one of the rear door panels. The 1/4 glass sunshade needs to be removed to gain access to a hidden screw. If you are looking at the sunshade from inside of the car. Lower the window, and look at the op of the shade assembly on the inside. You will see a square looking hole. Using a small pocket screw driver, or equivalent, insert the screwdriver into the hole and pry upwards. Pull the assembly to you at the same time. The clip that holds the assembly in place is pretty stout. You may want to shine a flashlight inside the hole to get a better idea of how far to pry the retaining clip up. Just in case you need to know, there are 2 screws under the trim strip that is adjacent to the release handle and one toward the bottem of the door near the interior pocket.

SOURCE: My rear window shade is not working

You will need to remove the door panel in order to
prevent further damage to the electric window motor in
your door. Electric window motors are typically very
expensive so you should be careful not to damage it. You
should be able to easily remove the roller blinds once
the door panel is removed.

there should be a screw behind the handle to open the door and a few more behind the wood trim panel. then the panel pops off.be sure not to loose the gaskets that are on the retaining clips.the wood trim pops off too. be careful. the wood is delicate.the shade assy should bolt to the inside of door not interior panel.

I have 2006 750 LI the passenger rear power shade will only go up 1-2 inches and reset?> I have checked for obstructions/ poped top panel back and tried to manually raise/ and put back ib factory clips...

Hi Butler296,

I would recommend double checking the door panel at the top where the shade travels and make sure that the leather material is not coming loose. If it appears to be ok, try reinitializing the rear window by raising it all the way up, and once up holding for approximately 7seconds. Also, there is a built in safety feature that will not allow the sunscreen to automatically raise if the window glass is down.

Rear privacy shade problem

Hi RJO. The drive is the slide and mechanism complete. It requires the rear seat back and seat bottom to come out. Both the rear c-pillar covers and rear partial shelf come out to. In the mean time, you can manually help it lower. Get another person to press the button to lower while you hold the folding rails in each hand. You need to help the rail pivot and guide in place as it lowers.
