Most thermostat bodies are usually quite easy to remove. For tools a decent socket set with extension bars and flex joints will be needed. Depending on how the hose clamps are fastened you will need a small socket, a flat blade screwdriver or a large pair of grips.
The only issue you might have is getting to the thermostat housing as I think it is tucked under another radiator hose. As your draining the system anyway you will be safe to remove it for access.

The thermostat is located in the thermostat housing which is in the radiator return line...

You will loose all the coolant when you remove the thermostat. We use a vacuum coolant fill device to remove the air from the cooling system and **** new coolant back in. I don't expect you have this so you will have to improvise. Fill coolant into block through upper radiator hose at radiator.

I hope were talking about a Ford V8,
Just follow the top radistor hose back to the engine block.
There should be 2 "7/16" bolts and a housing.
You shouldn't have to remove the hose in most cases.
loosen the two bolts,MAKE SURE ENGINE IS COOL.
At the bottom of the housing is the thermostat it should be resting on the engine block.
remove and replace it with the new one in the same direction with the spring down in the engine block.
Male sure you remove all the old gasket and put in a new gasket.
If you need a gasket sealer "used with most fiber type gaskets" use the gasket sealer.
If it happens to be a rubber "O" ring type gasket, no sealer is required.

Engine Coolant Thermostat and Housing Replacement, Tools Required: Hose Clamp Pliers.
Removal Procedure IMPORTANT:Use the hose clamp pliers to gently release tension on the hose clamp until the hose clamp lock feature engages allowing removal of the hose.

• Drain the cooling system.
• Using the hose clamp pliers, release the tension on the hose clamp at the thermostat housing and reposition the clamp.
• Remove the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing.

• Remove the thermostat housing bolt/stud.
• Remove the thermostat housing.

INSTALLATION

• Position the thermostat housing.
• Install the thermostat housing bolt/stud.
• Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
• Install the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing.
• Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, release the hose clamp retention lock at the thermostat housing.
• Fill the cooling system.

No, just basic mechanics hand tools. This vehicle is 11 years old. I recommend you perform a complete cooling system service at the same time you replace the water pump. Drain, flush, replace the thermostat, replace the water pump, pour in a 50/50 mix of the correct antifreeze and distilled water. (Do not use tap water). Bleed all air from the system. Also inspect the radiator hoses and heater hoses. Replace as necessary.

. If you are needing to replace your thermostat, I highly recommend doing it yourself. It is easy to do, and very cheap.
Now to start. It should take about an hour to complete this, but giving yourself plenty of time is the first step. The tools I used are very common, and can be found just about anywhere. i have the diagram below all of this post

Before you start, drain all of your coolant out of the car. This will make your life a lot easier down the road.


Tools used:
3/8" Drive ratchet
3/8" 2" drive extender
3/8" to 1/4" drive reducer
1/4" drive ratchet
10mm socket
8mm socket
Flathead screwdriver (not pictured)

Parts needed: Thermostat
New coolant

radiator needs no special tools wrenches and ratchet i would replace all hoses connecting to the radiator and thermostat would be a good idea to ensure no overheating

It is not a complicated procedure and all the work is within reach and no special tools are needed (can be done with just a pair of regular pliers, but please safely use the proper tools).. The steps are below; however, you may want to go to your local public library (you don't need a library card) and go to the "Reference Section". There you can find "Chilton's and Motor's reference books on your vehicle. Find the pages related to changing the thermostat and photocopy them using the public copy machines (15 ~ 25 cents per page).

Here are the steps:
1. Locate the thermostat housing at the end of the top radiatoir hose where it connects to the engine manifold. It is held onto the hose with a clamp.
2. Drain the radiator coolant to a level below the height of the thermostat housing. The drain plug is a thumb-screw on the lower right of the radiator as you face the radiator (maybe lower left). Reach behind the radiator from the bottom of the car. When done, then:
3. Remove the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the manifold.
4. Remove the old thermostat from the engine (may be stuck - pry it off) and scrape the old gasket and sealant from the housing and the manifold.
5. Install new thermostat (pointy side towards radiator) and use sealant on both sides of the gasket.
6. I recommend Permatex #2 non-hardening gasket sealant (small tube $3).
7. Tighten the housing down and replenish radiator....

I believe your thermostat is stuck in the closed position. It's not allowing coolant to circulate and cool off in the radiator. The water coming out of the tube is from the radiator overflow tube. The super-hot coolant is expanding and has no where to go since the thermostat is stuck. Replace the thermostat and use a new gasket set. Its an easy job if your handy with tools.
