My tailgate will not stay up on my 2002 v70 wagon. Can you help?

You need new tailgate struts. Most auto parts stores sell them. Just stick a broom stick under the tailgate and remove the ceiling panel and unsnap the old ones and snap the new ones in. Make sure to install them exactly the way they were before you started.

How to remove tailgate struts?

If you mean standard tailgate supports, no electric / pneumatic or power ones. Then you just lower the tailgate and bend the "v" hinges upwards until they come off, or cables on newer trucks, and lift gate to a 45 degree angle and they pull right off. If you mean industrial style heavy duty stuff, re post this question and I'll send you a wide variety of schematics. I have info from everything from right hand drive 3 cylinder pick ups, up to big rigs and even some VERY heavy equipment. Hope I helped. Grimm

91 subaru pneumatic air suspension not working

The front struts from either sedan or wagon are interchangeable so either will work, back struts have to be from the same type (wagon or sedan) as top suspension mount plates are different. Just pull the air suspension out and replace with standard struts. There are plenty of people dismantling them so parts are easy to get and quite cheap.
It's easy to swap, just remove each strut and bolt in the standard one, Remove the switch from the dash and get a blanking plate from a dismantled vehicle and fit it into the hole.

I am replacing the tailgate strut that failed and can't get the trim cover off to snap out the bottom of the strut.

In the lift gate inside trim panel you will see a plastic cap plug at the door latch area. Remove the plug to gain access to the latch. You will see the plastic plug cap at the bottom of the inside lift gate trim panel. ----------- Click this link below for more details:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-remove-tailgate-strut-on.html --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

How to replace liftgate support rod fro 2005 jeep grande cherokee

Hi ... You need two people, two new gas struts a small screw driver and a thirteen mill open end spanner.....
Change one at a time with the second person supporting the tailgate, dependant on what type is fitted the struts will have a metal "c" clip that needs to be removed at both ends on the ball joint sockets, prise the clips out and remove the strut, and replace in reverse order.... if you have the struts with the ball and sockets at each end you need to support the tailgate with your by now long suffering partnre and undo the nut and socket in the body and tailgate.... they, once loosened will come out easily..... just make sure that when refitting you dont cross threads... repeat same on the other side and then give friend a cold beer..... hope this helps..... 1991 Honda Accord Wagon. The hatch will not stay up.

Hi,

The struts (support bars) lose their effectiveness over time.

The good news is....they can be re-gassed.

Contact your local gas strut repairer, or obtain a price for some 2nd hand ones from your local auto dismantler.

Cheers,
