Donald, sense you have a burning smell and a starting and running issue, I would start by checking all the wiring and connectors to see if they are burnt OR may have fell onto the exhaust somewhere and melted the wiring. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website here: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/
IT IS LOOKS LIKE A FUEL PRESSURE LEAKING INSIDE THE ENGINE OR DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTOR LEAKING . TRY DISCONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. AND CRANK THE ENGINE IF ALWAYS CRANK WITH OUT OF FUEL (CRANK WITHOUT START) YOU HAVE FUEL LEAK INSIDE THE ENGINE
REMOVE THE INJECTORS RAIL UP EVERYTHING CONNECTED,PUT BACK THE FUEL PUMP RELAY TURN THE SWITCH ON AND FIND WICH ONE IS LEAKING. (GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE TAKE CARE)
It could be flooded with fuel. You could try pulling the fuel pump relay and cranking the engine to clear it out. A mechanic would check for spark at the plugs and also see if the plugs are fuel fouled. Usually if the oil pressure light comes on the engine will eventually die because the fuel pump stops getting voltage.
If you smell fuel in the exhaust, then you can assume the fuel pump is working. Spark at the coil is fine but do you have spark to the plugs? It sounds like you have an older car with a cap and rotor. You might have a bad cap or rotor. It might just be flooded, in which case pulling and cleaning the spark plugs would help.
no spark crank sensor. good you getting fuel but with no signal from the crank sensor it will not fire up. can also be oil pressure switch so if the oil light wont go out while cranking the engine it can be this as well
SMELL LIKE FLOODING BUT CHECK AROUND FOR FUEL LEAKS UNDER THE HOOD AROUND ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHERE FUEL LINES ARE AND CHECK UNDER THE VECHICLE FROM FRONT TO THE BACK WHERE FUEL LINES GOES TO FUEL TANK.LOOK FOR GAS DRIPPING.BEST TO SCAN VECHICLE WITH A SCANNER.MANY THINGS WILL KEEP IT FROM CRANKING UP.CHECK IGNITION FUSE MAKE SURE COIL GETTING POWER.IF ALL IS GOOD YOU REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES HAVE VECHICLE THAT WAY YOU WONT SPEND A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY BUYING A LOT OF NEW PARTS.
the debris from the bottom off the tank may have clogged the fuel filter and or the injectors. theres no fuel getting into the engine, change fuel filter, thats about $25.00. if problems persists try an injector cleaner.
1 Fuel Pump > Check for Fuel Smell And Pump Noise
2 Timing Belt. If it Cranks Unusualy Fast or sounde as if it SKIPS While Cranking
3IGnition Modual & Coil Packs>> Check For Spark While Someones Cranking Engine Over
You will not have a hot wire on the fuel injectors. The go for the injectors is a monentary high which means even when cranking over you will not see it with a multimeter. When cranking over after a bit you should smell gas if not you are probably not getting fuel. If you smell gas the you are probably not getting spark. This is most likely the senerio since you couldn't start it with starting fluid. By the way don't do that very often because it can damage your engine. There are several areas to look if you have no spark. The first is the distributor, the second is your coil and the last is your computer. Good luck. Please rate the helpfulness of my answer.
