Need to remove headrests to put on seatcovers and can't figure out how to get them off. Have tried pulling straight up and nothing happens. Can't find any sort of release mechanism.

Pull the head rest up and look at the bottom of both shafts for small holes. Put a paper clip or something a little stronger into the holes to depress the locking tabs while lifting up on the head rest at the same time.
Sorry I don't know this exact model, so if this does not help please post again.
Look at the base where the bars go into the seat, around the bases will be a button or what looks like a button on the base, you either push this in, now if it does not push in then it's usually a clip thet needs to come out.
Look at both bases, carefully for a spot where a small notch is, this is so the plastic clip can be pulled out so the headrest can be pulled out.
So try pushing in on the spot that looks like it has a seam around a button, or you pull it out.
Just removed them on a 2005 Sebring sedan. Easier with two people but one can manage just fine. The trick is a tiny hole in the plastic "sleeves" that the metal posts on the headrest slide into. You'll need a small poking device-Allen wrench, drill bit, tiny screw driver, whatever. The hole is on the right side of the right side sleeve on each headrest (as you're sitting in the back seat facing forward) and is perpendicular to the direction the metal rods go into the sleeves. Insert your small poker and depress the plastic button on the other plastic sleeve simultaneously while your helper pulls up on the headrest.
On your headrest, there will either be a push button that you can push to release the headrest, or on some models, there's actually a tiny hole that you will need to push something like a paperclip into to release the headrest
There Is A Button At The Bottom Of One Of The Silver Posts Hold It The Whole Time You Are Lifting The Headrest Out. The Little Button Is Almost Always Grey Plastic.
in the front side of the seats (upper part) you might have to press hard and feel, there should be a sort of button press hard let someone help you to lift off the headrests,
Look at the top of ur seat, between the two shafts of ur headrest. Beside one of the posts is a black plastic base on which one side has a button u push. That allows u to remove the headrest. U might have to jimmy side to side a bit as they are somewhat hard to remove at times, just do so with ur finger pushing the release mechanism.
Usea small flat screwdriverand run down along side the inside of the headrest rod. You will unclip 1 side and the rod will release. Do the same on the other and the headrest will come off. When you want to put back on just install and push down. Follow same procedure when you want to remove again. It is a little touchy but as soom as you remove 1 you will become a expert. I have done hundreds of those in the past couple years.
