My fluid always leaks out which I'm use to anyway the other day it was empty my son put power steering fluid in it now we have no brakes and the power steering fluid is not drawing out

Chances are its the rack and pinion, either a seal or one of the power steering lines. The pump is on the passenger side of the engine.

check your fluids oil. power steering tranny fluid brake fluid and see which one is low

You have what they call a hydro boost system, the power steering pump give power steering assist, and give power brakes, so if your power steering hose looses fluid you get not power steering and no power brakes, So check the power steering hose for leaks if there is no leaks replace the powersteering pump

Well, if the clutch master cyl is empty the clutch will not disengage.
And if it is empty there is a leak.
Possible someone put transmission fluid into the master which would probably destroy the seals.
There should be a brake master cyl and a clutch master cyl next to each other on the firewall.
I would check the clutch master cyl next.

Check to see if the belt is still turning the p/s pump. I'm betting it is but it won't hurt. Check to see if the power steering fluid is full. If it is empty than you need to figure out where it is leaking. Could be the pump, hoses, steering gear/rack and pinion, or the hydro booster. If it is not emptythan remove the belt and pull out of the power steering pump pulley. If it pulls out of the pump replace the pump. Pretty common with newer gm vehicles. Make sure you post a Year, make, model, and engine size? This always makes it easier to help you out!

It's possible you overfilled the power steering reservoir or perhaps spilled some that leaked down on the exhaust manifold. That would cause a lot of smoke until it burned off.

You will have a leak from the pump, pressure hoses or the rack. You will have to get the system washed down and inspected for the leak, most common problem is the steering rack leaking, this will leak oil onto the exhaust and cause your smoking problem, start her.


Remove the power steering pump pulley.
Place a drain pan under the vehicle. Important: Cap or plug the ends of the power steering hoses to prevent fluid loss.
Disconnect the power brake booster inlet hose from the power brake booster.



Disconnect the power steering cooler hose from the power steering pump.



Disconnect the power steering pump remote reservoir hose from the power steering pump.



Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
Remove the power steering pump rear mounting bracket nut.
Lower the vehicle.
Loosen the accessory bracket bolts and nut. Pull the accessory bracket forward.
Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
Remove the power steering pump and the power brake booster inlet hose from the vehicle.
Remove the power brake booster inlet hose from the power steering pump.

sounds like a rear wheel cylinder

likely either the steering rack&pinion assembly is leaking or the hoses to it are leaking, have it put on a lift to see which steering componet the fluid is leaking from.

The first thing you have to ask yourself is "where did the old fluid go in the first place?"

Most likely, it is leaking from the steering rack itself, and into the dust boots, which is why you can't see it.

If the system was completely empty, you will have to fill it, and turn the wheel from left to right, all the way from "lock to lock" each way. This can be hard, but that's what you have to do to get the fluid back into the system.

It "should" only take 3-4 complete turns back and forth for it to work, unless there's a major leak. Then, top off the system.

Look under the car for any signs of fluid "weeping" from out of the steering rack.
