How do I remove the steering wheel on my 04 Jaguar Xtype awd? It's loose and I want to tighten it but can't get the airbag removed to get to the center but.

first you want to unplug the air bag. you do this buy removing the plastic surround around the steering column, where the ignition is, just below the steering wheel itself, then you have to remove the air bag by removing the bolts from the back of the steering wheel...

then get a steeering wheel removal kit, autozone has a loan a tool program.

put the steering wheel tool on and turn oit with a wrench adn the wheel will pop off...

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. If needed, you can pull back the weather seal (can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to access everything inside the door

As in you want a diagram? Either way, I don't have one but I have managed to remove it. I don't know if this might help but I start off by forcibly removing it by holding on to both sides of the top of the console (where the ash tray resides). Upon removal, I remove the cover of the ash tray by unscrewing two screws on both sides of the cover. These require a cross screwdriver. I then take off the connectors to both of the buttons where the gear lever is. The leather surrounding the handbrake is a bit tricky to remove. Slowly unbutton it then remove the top plastic part; you might lose the little spring that holds the button if you aren't careful. Then open the arm rest. Two Torx screws are located by the pivot point of the arm rest. I'm sorry I can't remember the size (most likely an T8). That's just about it. Hope this helps

If I am understanding your post, I believe you do have a levelling
system and it should be near your light switch on the dash. It is
the type of switch that you depress first, it then springs out and
you turn the small knob (just like your instrument panel lights
adjuster next to it.) What you do not have perhaps, if your car is
not fitted with HIDs (high intensity headlamps), is the automatic
levelling system which is a legal requirement when HIDs are fitted
due to the high power of the lights....

if you don't have a self-levelling system then you'll have a manual
system, operated by a knob under the light switch so that you can
adjust to compensate for a heavy load in the rear of the car.
