I got a new battery, but the car will only start by jump starting it. I can drive the car but oncei turn it off, it must be jump started again.
Check the starter/solenoid. If you have a weak starter or solenoid, it could need the extra voltage put into your electrical system when doing a jump start.
If you boost it and start great all your parts on the car good clean contact on the battery and make sure those therminal are real tigh if there loose or dirty it will not start if you boost it your apply voltage on the outside of the therminal that why it start
I agree with shadowchb but, did you check the voltage of the new battery before you installed it? It may not have been charged fully to begin with and you still have the original problem of a charging problem. If this is the case, start the car by jump starting, carefully disconnect the donor battery and then put a dc voltmeter across the battery teminals of the battery in the car. It should read about 13.5 volts. Rev the car and you should see a small increase in voltage. If this does not happen look for a worn fanbelt or generator / alternator / voltage regulator problem. If you are getting the correct voltages look into the starter motor / starter solenoid senario as discussed earlier. Cheers
Battery connectors corroded make sure both sides of - and + connectors are clean.
